Ok guys, I need some assistance on editing pics. My company just got us all new PC's and I have no idea on how to edit the size. I know they have to be under
150k to post here, but how do I edit them to a smaller size? I have the Dell computers with the windows XP, but know noting else. I think I have the photo imaging but don't know how to use it. Can you help?

Thanks,

What are the dimensions of the picture (height and width)? What dimension do you want? Reducing the file size can be accomplished by any of these tasks:, 1) cropping some of the picture out, 2) resizing the picture to a smaller scale, 3) saving/converting/exporting the picture to a different file format (i.e., saving from a tif to a jpg will reduce the file size however, your quality will suffer), 4) reducing the resolution, or 5) reducing the number of colors.

You have to realize that reducing the file size is the RESULT of another action described above. If you goal is to simply reduce the file size, then you are going to have to compromise elsewhere (i.e., quality, dimension, colors, etc.).

What paint program are you using? A lot of the paint programs will have an optomize process (sometimes called, "Save for web") which will show you several results from which you can choose one.

I used Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Fireworks, and Illustrator.

Hope this helps,
Darren

We also have Dell computers that use Microsoft Photo Editor. Open the file then choose Image>crop to trim off excess. Then choose image>resize to get it into the dimensions you want. When you choose save (as a .jpg) there's a button on the bottom of the window (More>) which gives you a slide for choosing image quality. 100 gives the most resolution and the biggest file size, lower number less.

Hope this helps.

With XP just bring up in the Windows Picture/Fax Viewer, then right click and from "send to" select email recipient. This will bring up a window to select size. Keep as is and it will be sized for small web viewing. Send it to yourself and see how it looks, then upload to the forum or redo in a larger size.
