Here's one Brian Murphy from the QDMA told me about :
Jonathan,
By the way, I didn't see a link of the page for the summary on CWD by the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study at UGA. ######This 18-page report is the most comprehensive on CWD I've seen. ######The website is www.scwds.org ######Then, go to the "Briefs" section and look for April 2002. ######I think it's Vol. 18, Iss. 1
Brian

The best research I have read on CWD is at http://www.stopcwd.org It is thinking outside of the box and follows the research by Dr. Frank Bastian of Tulane University concerning spiroplasma bacteria as a vector of CWD. This is quality research put together by Rich Forrest of Colorado and makes much more sense than the Prion Theory which appears to be an effect rather than cause of CWD. Some state DNRs, especially Wisconsin, use the Prion Theory of Pruisner to gather additional Federal funding while trying to kill as many deer as possible.
The University of WI at Madison eventually admitted they brought CWD into the state for research. Workers at the lab have stated they not only had Mule Deer at the facility and there were escapes. WDNR have stated previously there were Mule Deer sighted at Mt. Horeb. Dr. Marsh's papers show he and three other professors innoculated CWD into Mule Deer with positive results. Two of those professors are now receiving millions of dollars in federal research grants to study CWD. Those professors now have deer once again in the same research facility conducting more testing on CWD. Whether the escapes were intentional or intentional are not relevant. The origin of CWD has come for circle and those responsible are being rewarded with millions of dollars.

While attending the SHOT show I spoke with a Wyoming Wildlife Biologist about CWD learning of the experiments that have been conducted in Wyoming using mice, cattle, deer & elk. A group of mice were injected with human cells and another group with with deer cells the group with the deer cells died of cwd while the other group thrived, additional tests were done with cattle in the pen with deer and with elk the deer and elk died of cwd and the cattle were not effected. Also noted is antelope do not contract cwd.As far as is known no humans have been victims of cwd.The biologist doen't believe this a new disease, that it has been occuring for a long time and that the numbers of hunters who have hunted in the US killing deer and elk haven't been effected by the game or died from consuming it.In the early 60's when I was in college studying wildlife mgt we were told deer would die from the stresses of overpopulation , starvation, diseases with numerous endo & ecto parasites in and on their bodies classified as an epizootic but the symptoms noted were emaciated listless animals not unlike the animals dying of cwd .
