Thumbs up

How did you guys get started backpacking and backpack hunting? I started backpacking in Boy Scouts. We hiked a lot of the Texas state parks, Philmont Scout Ranch in NM, and then after scouts my brother and I took many trips, most notably RMNP, GMNP (guadalupe mtn natl park), and GSMNP.

I learned at a young age that getting remote with everything that you need on your back was an awesome thrill. Waking up in a mummy bag with a cold nose and sumping your oatmeal bowl/mug have become things that I look forward to.

How did you guys get started?

I backpacked a little when I was a kid and have backpack hunted in my early 20s.I became extremely serious about 6 years ago. I decided I wanted to get away from the roads and other hunters.
In the past few years I and a hunting partner have had numerous large basins full of deer all to ourselves.

High school and college buddies.

Stopped for, wow, about 15 years...now back to it.

This summer I take my teen boys out for a few nights...no iced drinks in the cooler, no Coleman stove, no people for miles, I think they'll like it.
