I am new to the website but had to post a photo of the shark I caught on a local calico trip.
The funny part was that it was filmed for some fishing show.
The bad part was that I was really trying to catch a halibut and was using 20# test & No2 halibut rig.

Sweet!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif
That must have been one hell of a fight. I'm actually surprised that he didn't break you off. Many a times have I been broken off by a threasher while fishing with halibut gear.
Did you tail hook him or did he eat your bait?
Where were you fishing?
Were you guy drifting or trolling when you got the hook up?

jackrabbit,
I was on the SEA STAR out of Helgrens.
We were somewhere around Oceanside.
We were anchored.
He ate my sardine and kept on going.
It was fun he was jumpin it was great.
He was hooked right in the side of the mouth just like a circle hook.
I was surprised too I've had some of those toothless tuna rub through the line if I didn't get them in quick enough.
I have to see if I can get a copy of the video from the big guy in the middle in the photo.
It was he and his people doing the taping. I had a copy but one of my kids taped over it.

Awww man I've NEVER hooked one in the mouth! I hear they go ape-shit when you hook them there.
That would be awesome if you could get some video of you fighting him.
What was he just under 100 lbs?
I got a couple last year out of Gaviota. I can't wait to go this year. But we have to wait for this crappy weather to calm down and for the water to warm up. When you set the hook into these babies it is unbelieveable, it's like stickin' a big buck if you know what I mean, that kind of rush.
Sardines are definately one of their favorites; also for halibut.
IF you can get some video see if you can load it on.
Here is a pic of one of my successful trips last year.

We got three that day largest being about 150.

Holy schnikeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just noticed that the big guy you were talking about is none other that Dan Hernandez!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've watched his show before, Sport Fishing w/Dan Hernandez Right????.
Does he have your footage on one of his videos.
He is the only guy who puts California Sportfishing with Dan Hernandez on TV. Even though it 's mainly So Cal he still catches a lot of the stuff that I do.

jackrabbit,
great pic of a nice thresher.
Is that your boat?
Looks nice, when you said pics I immediately thought you would be on a kiayak or something (no offense) nothing wrong with kiayaks. They are so popular and threshers are usually pretty close to shore in my limited experiences.
Yea, that's Dan Hernandez he was doing a calico fishing segment when the threshers moved in.
That fish took me around the boat once and made a few good jumps.
Lots of fun

It's actually my buddies' boat.
I've never caught a threasher out of a kayak, they pull the 18 footer far enough. I couldn't imagine how far out to sea they would pull you in kayak. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-ren.gif
