I`ll be hitting the high country this summer near edison and florence lakes. Where are some "off the beaten path spots "for large NATURAL trout"near there? Maybe a half a days hike or so. Thanks T.R.

Get a map and look for sections of river that are as far away from Forest Servce roads as you can get. Preferrably steep canyons with exposed cliff amd heavy timber. There were sections like that of the Stanislaus (?) River that held larger fish. Had lots of big ole rattlers too.

One constant is that 99.9% of people will not try and kill themselves to get where the big ones are. Tributaries that feed bigger creeks are places to look. Any place that has impenatrable brush lining the banks over nice runs. Sections of river between falls or rapids that are hard to reach.

Meadows. Tiny outflow creeks that have few fish or water to hold them can have nice ones where the creek slows down and winds through a meadow.
