Missouri sheriff cited for second time in Iowa

By Stephen A. Martin, The Hawk Eye

KAHOKA, Mo. -- A county sheriff convicted of poaching deer in Iowa has run afoul of the conservation officer again.

Doug Jones, 36, Wayland, Mo., was ticketed Nov. 13 while allegedly road hunting outside Memphis, Mo.

A Scotland County conservation officer cited him for using an artificial light, attempting to take a deer from a vehicle and attempting to take a deer from a public roadway. All are misdemeanors, and carry a maximum punishment of $614 in fines and costs.

Jones, elected sheriff in Clark County last year, pleaded guilty in March to hunting violations in Van Buren County. He and companion Kevin Pitford, 34, Kahoka, Mo., were caught with a rifle-killed deer carcass during bow season.

The sheriff is also being probed by the Missouri Highway Patrol and FBI in connection with an allegation of sexual misconduct earlier this year.

Authorities said Jones had sexual intercourse with a female prisoner in the back of a county-owned sport utility vehicle. The sheriff was transporting the woman at the time.

Can any Clark County Missouri residents explain why this clown is still in office?
