I was looking into these game finders since I am an avid bow hunter but am terrible at tracking (color blind). ###Luckily I have friends who are good at it. ###I've been looking into these electronic heat detector game finders, hoping they could help me. ###My questions are has anybody used these and did they help? ###Also I just made a camera recently and was wondering if anybody has considered making one of these game finders. I found a couple sites about robotics and heat sensing. ###I also saw one that used a simple flashlight to make a heat detector but with very limited range 6 feet I think. ###(I'm trying to find it again and will post a link when I do). ###Anybody considering this or are in the process let me know. ###I'd like to find out more....

Here is a link to a simple heat detector.

Hmmm...not much response on this. ###I've been doing some research on these game finders. ###I think making a game finder out of the same ###pir sensors and concepts that the camera's use is all these things are. ###At least that's what I got out of the specs I read on them. ### The difference being that they are hand held. ### Your test light would be your indicator. ###Motion on the sensors would result from being hand held and scanning the area. ###Heat would be from the downed animal. ###To make the sensor beam more narrow and reach farther, some type of cone would be needed between the sensor and the fresnal lense. ### hmmmmm.......I'm gonna play with this whole idea soon. ###I'm new to the electrical stuff...but I really think this could work. ###Any ideas from electrical geniouses? ###

DB,
Your first order of business is to buy a commercial one. ###Hack it appart and see what gives inside.
Once inside get your micro spy cam out and snap photo's of internal workings. Next duplicate and blueprint. ###Return commercial one for full refund and post your finished product here....hehhe
ok, heres what I think.
The pir will not work because the chip "see's" zones and the IR temp diffential between them. ###This differential is tooo minute.
What you need to start with is called a Thermister. ###It will seek a certain tempature and not signal [electronic pulse]till a tempature match is found. ###The premiss seems simple enough but I'll bet there a bit of tricky resistence probs to work out....yoteee'
Let's call for some back-up here as this could actually be used to trigger our beloved cams too.....Oh tinhorn...Archy...Steiner...Jessie...brian...eagle ..ect...ect..

I just bought a used game tracker jr. ### I would take it apart ###but, even if I did I don't think I colud figure out how to duplicate it. ###Should I even try...I would realy like to be able to give back to this site...I have learned a lot here...any advice dbworld??

I have no advice....I'm challenged on this stuff. ###I just read the specs once on the game finders and it almost looked to me like it was just a beefed up pir. ###One of these days I'm going to get a ms20 or rs pir and play around with it to see ###if it might work,

dbworld,

Unless you have about $10,000 to throw out it's not possible. The gamefinders they sell to hunters do not work from my experience and from reading other posts in hunting forums, they're just are not sensitive enough. The ones we used in the military work but they are very expensive.

We even tried using a gamefinder in the snow which you would think help differentiate the heat real well. Nope, we couldn't even find my buddies dog laying in the snow. The false readings drove us crazye on sunny days and even on cloudy days.

Save your money, the gamefinders are a gimmick that don't work.

I just tried the used one I bought last night, at first is seems like it is going to be great, when you wave your hand in front of it the lights all come on. ###So I put a candle out in the back yard to simulate downed game, even at only fifteen meters I received more false readings than the candle. ###They claim you can find downed game birds...I don’t think so. ###I am glad I only paid $30.

Hmmmmm....$10,000 ###was a little more than I wanted to spend. ###I assumed that the commercial ones actually worked too. ###Sounds like they don't..... ###Guess I'll have to stick with calling my friend. ###He can track very well. ###I'm color blind when it comes to following a blood trail (unless it's on snow) that's why a game finder that works would be so appealing to me.
