Log Splitter

I’m in need of a log splitter and have been thinking about trying to build one. Has anyone done this or know where I can get some plans.

I built one a few years back. I am real happy with it
I paterned after a friend of mine's . ###Didnt get any measurements , just gatered all the needed hardware and built around it. ###If you live near north cal , theres a great place to get all the hydrolic stuff at a good price. ###Its a wrecking yard for heavy equipment . they also have a lot of surplus new stuff.
He had a pallet of hyd. ###rams that were perfect.
Heavy duty , just the right throw. $100. ###he had the pump , made me custom hoses hydrolic filter assembly etc.

Its a horizontal unit.
I got a 16 H.P. elect start motor for FREE a year earlier.
I used a 16 GPM 2 stage pump. ( This is the one you want.)
Got the hydrolic control from northern equipment mail order catalog.
I used Heavy I beam . And what I did was "Box" in the rear portion of the beam and used it for the hydrolic tank. Saves you the cost of buying a tank.

I could go on . But If your interested I could take some pics and get some measurements for you.
Everyone that has seen and used it seems to be real impressed with it

I'd be interested in some the details. ###I've got an old I-beam unit that hooked-up to the hydraulics of a tractor, but it never had enough power. ###I think I need to resize the ram.....and making it a stand-alone would be a lot more convienient.
