Just wanted to say that I lost one of my best friends this weekend while he was on duty. Hit and run drunk driver. Our neighboring agency hooked him up. I was unfortunatley not working as I really regret not being at his sdie when he took his last breath.

Not sure How I am going to make it through it but, his Dad asked me to read a poem at the funeral. I could not say no. So, I get to try to hold it together in front of 3000 people

Sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your department. It is never easy to hear of any LEO not to mention your own. In sixteen years I've lost two that I worked with and another from another agency that I knew. Hard times to say the least. Stick together and remember the good times with your bro. Celebrate the life that he lived and try not to dwell on his death.
God Bless

Thanks to everybody for their words. It has helped a lot to have the support of fellow LEO's and the community.

Sorry to hear that. We ride with two people in a car and I have a steady partner, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose him. You build a strong relationship with someone who you are always doing crazy things with, only they will ever really know that part of your life. We have done things and seen things that not even my closest family members will understand. Having never lost a partner, I can only try to understand your pain. We all pray that we will never know it, but since it can happen any time, every day is a blessing.

Thanks guys and you are so right that not even family can understand the things you did together. I had some well meaning person say, "sorry about your co-worker." I couldn't believe they would even think he was only a co-worker but then again they sit behind a desk all day and have no idea what it is like to entrustt your likfe with somebody every day you go to work.

I was a little drunk once at a restruant and found my self in one of those "I love everybody" moments. I pointed to my partner and said to my wife "See this guy? I'll die for him if I have to!" I immedietely realized that was stupid to say outloud, but everyone there knew that it was the truth. It just sucks when it really happens.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I myself am not an officer, my father is. I know first hand how difficult it is when you lose your best freind and co-worker. I see the pain in my dads eyes every day since that day.My father's best freind was killed by the awol marine in Ceres. It's not easy. Again, I am very sorry to hear of your loss.
