I have considered buying a scanner, but don't want to spend very much money on one. ###I just looked at a Visioneer (sp?) Scanner for about $35 at Office Depot. ###This seems awful low. ###

Is this a good scanner? ###What should I look for?

I have a $45 Mustek scanner that came with my computer at home. ###The resolution is the key to getting a good scan. ###The Mustek has decent resolution, but makes a ton of noise and clicking as it is trying to adjust the scan head to the image. ###
Negatives: ###In a word: cheap. ###Sometimes the scan does not match the image border and I'll have to trim or rescan the product for what I want to see. ###
Positives: Not a lot of $ invested and easily replaced with a better unit. Resolution is flexible; although, I don't usually scan above 600dpi.

Welby,

Wayne has a great site on scanning at http://www.scantips.com/

There are links to other scan sites that rate scanners.

Also there is http://www.computingreview.com/reviews/index_scanners.asp

and http://pcphotoreview.com/reviews/scanners.cfm

Happy scanning

Under no circumstances should you buy a Visoneer. I bought their top of the line model and it is total junk. The software is terrible and is well noted for incurable problems.

Get an HP.

I have a Canon Canoscan N656u bought from Walmart for 50.00 It is the best I have seen for the money. You can also download Ulead Photo Explorer for free. This gives you the ability to do just about anything With photos. Also just put the disc in and it completely installs itself. Almost to easy.
