I wonder why Mtn Bikers don't pack a weapon when they're tripping in out of the way places.Usually the sound of a shot will suffice to discourage further contact.It has worked with a bear in Siskiyou County in the Marble Mtn Wilderness that stayed a couple of hundred yards ahead of a group of scouts on a trail and would stop when they stopped and move when they moved.The scoutmaster fired a couple of 22 rounds from his Colt Woodsman causing the bear to vacate the area.
