The bunch of us went down to the aqueduct for a couple hours after work last night. We were getting skunked for catfish, and just before time to go, someone opened the Striper gate! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-wow-eyes-yellow.gif Them things were huge, and crashing the surface so much, it was like popcorn! Well, we tried everything we had; chicken livers, squid, swimbaits (various), and the bleeding-shad rat-l-trap. Nothing but a couple short bites on the squid, under slow retrieve. I know we should have brought some shrimp, anchovie, but we didn't, and I'm not sure those would have worked anyway.
We ended up staying an extra 4 hours. After all, how can you leave when they're splashing around like 3 year olds in the kiddy-pool!? We walked away more frustrated than...than...than the time I dated the cutest little tease in high school!

Hesperia.
I told one of the guys at work the story. He laughed, said "bloodworms", and walked away shaking his head and mumbling.
Hmm... http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-idea-blu.gif

It's the same one, the California Aqueduct. Hesperia is the last of it, before it dumps into Silverwood lake. I probably won't have another shot at it until next week, but I will let you know how it goes.

pencle poppers or any kinda top water lure would probably work great.

blastmaster, if you dont mind me asking, how do you get to the aqueduct up there. im at the bottom of the hill in upland, and would like to check it out. topwater is definitely the way to go. zara spooks probably would have killed them.

We went again this weekend (it's now a quest for the striped ones) and brought along night crawlers and anchovies; nada again! I couldn't find any bloodworms or lugworms. The only thing I could find, was walmart recommended Petco, and all they had were these tiny-tiny things you put in an aquarium. We've tried every lure we got in our colective boxes, including lots of top-water lures. I firmly believe they're chasing small fish from the bottom up to the surface, and that's what we're seeing. They don't seem to be interested in anything else. I already tried to immitate them with the rat-l-trap, and various swimbaits pulled off the bottom.
Spoony, I'll send a PM, cause I don't want shine the internet light all over my spot.
I'm thinking dynamite, or a net, but that wouldn't really be fishin' then, would it. They're making me so mad now, I just want revenge! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-chainsaw-left.gif J/K

The boys and I went back on Saturday night. Got one nice cat, by accident. From the looks of them 3, you'd think they caught the fish. (It was me, baby...yeah all me!)

Live minnow or pileworm! Rig up your line with no weight. Or get one of the Banjo minnow.

Yeah, minows I think, are the hot ticket, because that's what they're chasing to the surface. I'm just gonna have to make a minnow trap & hope I get some. They don't sell pile worms or bloodworms around here. I think you got to be closer to the ocean, since they use those for surf-fishing.
I was hoping that artificials would work, but I've tried everything, and nada.

Try the Banjo Minnow. It worked great from me in the Feather River.
