I'm a recent new member of this site and was told about it from a friend and co-worker who was a member for a few years. I believe his avator had him as Storch from Iowa. A week ago last Saturday he was putting the finishing work on the peak of his barn he built when somehow he fell from the scaffoling and hit is head. He was killed instantly they believe. He had worked on this barn for a believe about a year or little longer. It was to be his workshop as well as a hanger to house the airplane he was building. Luke was an avid outdoorsman and nature lover. I just wanted to recognize him here because he loved posting and reading the forums on this site. Rest in peace Luke I will miss you!

Hello Dave,
WOW, that is shocking news. Luke went by the name j3storch here. If there's anything we can do to help his family just let us know. I enjoyed reading his posts since most of my family is from IA. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_sad.jpg

Man that IS bad news! I believe he went by J3Storch ... from his love of old airplanes. Great JHO member with an outstanding sense of humor!
I remember when someone asked him what he did for a living he replied:
Squirrel assassin,
pheasant startler,
confuser of deer

He will be missed very much here on the forums and in our lives.
My prayers go out to his family.

Damn sad to hear that. He had a GREAT sense of humor. I'd recommend everyone take a minute and look up some of his past posts. I about lost it reading his description of using corn cobs for TP, red ones and white ones, and when to use each!
Blue skies, Luke, you will be missed. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

Great poem
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God

Its two airplanes. I build airplanes as a hobby, my brother and I rebuilt a J3 (Piper cub) from a basket case. He flies that now.
I am currently build a 3/4 replica of the Fiesler Storch which was a 2 seat german observation/air ambulance plane used by the germans in WWII. It has (will have) excellent short field take-off and landing abilties. (I flew with the designer in Australia. We were off the ground in under 80 (yes, eighty) feet. Crusied at 75 mph and landed within 50 feet.
I'm years from getting it done, but when I do, I will have the best deer and turkey scouting machine in the USA.
Anyhow, thats where j3storch comes from.

I went back and looked at a number of his posts and the first I pulled up was the same post as the one Chuck N Lead just posted, dam this is sad I cant tell you how much this bums me out http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_sad.jpg ... my heart goes out to his family and friends, as well as my prayers http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_prayin_ani.gif His absence will be a great loss, and he will be truly missed here...
I just had to add this it is from one of his posts:

"DH, it sounds to me like he lived doing what he loved...
There are many who never do. Strength to your and his family to see that, and even rejoice a little bit for him for doing that. "
If the lord decides to take me I hope I too can go with this same type of attitude, truely a class act kind of a man. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_prayin_ani.gif Luke rest easy http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_prayin_ani.gif

yea this is sad.
storch to me was a more obscure member. reading through his post list i realized i didnt frequent the same forums as he did. but i did recognize his name from the campfire and remembered some of his posts. this is a sad day at jho.
it makes me wonder about other members that have not been seen around for a while. i dont look at all the forums but almost every member hits the campfire. thanks hawkeye for letting us know.

Army grunts and Marines stick a lost buddy's rifle in the ground with their helmet on top and their boots on the ground. I'm not sure what the Navy does when they lose someone. Us zoomies have another way of celebrating the life of a lost friend who was air crew. The missing man fly over.
I have a feeling Luke is buzzing all over heaven in that Storch about now.

For those wondering what a Storch plane looks like, here's one.
