I have Mad Dog 3-ply, but with rubber soles for waterfowl. I don't know what Jesse carries, but you'll want felt(?) soles for rocky bottoms. Is it felt? Someone here will know. The guys in the flyfishing forum should know for sure.

My http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/two-cents.gif on waders. Buy stocking foot waders. If you buy boot waders and the boots crack or otherwise leak over time your waders are junk. With stocking feet, you have the option of boots with different soles for rocks, mud, etc. I use el cheapo Big 5 hiking boots with mine.

BTW...I have Cabela's 5mm waders. My nephew has Hodgeman's. Both work fine.

I tried to buy waders from Cabelas, I was not able to get a pair that fit, I tried two different sizes. I did get my wader belt from Cabelas, and some velcro ankle straps.

I went to 4-5 different local stores and tried on every pair in my size each store had. I was able to get a pair of boot footed waders locally. With most brands/models either the feet were too small or the waders too bulky.

For stocking foots, I was in a local fly shop and they had a pair of custom made waders the customer didn't want. We made a deal and I purchased them. I also purchased a pair of Orvis Felt Sole wader shoes.

If I were to purchase another pair of waders, I would get breathables. Most of my wade fishing is done in warm weather, when I am in the water I am usually ok, but on the hikes in and out I get very hot. A couple of friends switch from hip boots back to waders. Usually works like this: Fish the lower Sac in waders, get drenched from sweat, next trip bring hippers but take in water, back to waders. I always get in too deep to wear hippers. Before I purchased waders, I used to wear a wet suit, I would float/swim between holes.

Things you want to look for are: fit (do the knees rub when you walk, can you bend over, etc.), gravel guards, pockets, suspender system (my boot foots are used for hunting, the right side suspender clip is very close to where I shoulder my shotgun, I have had problems and have to leave that side unclipped), the custom waders have very small clips, I can't operate them effectively with bulky gloves.

Something you will need: Aqua Seal, it works very well for repairing neoprene waders.

I would love to buy waders from cabelas, but i would rather size them in person.
3.5mm is what i have and they work great.
I float tubed upper twin in early november before close and they worked outstanding.
i agree with gwh about stocking foot.
I wear them and wear boots when i'm wading or wear the booties with my fins for float tubing,
This i feel is the best bet.
But.....What do i know???????????
I'm just a stupid fisherman http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bag-on-head.gif

I have the 5mm with boots from cabelas and they are the answer. 115.00 with boots 85.00 for stocking foot. I use them for duck hunting and trout fishing. the river we fish in georgia stays around 45 to 55 degrees year round. A couple of my buddies have the 3mm or 3.5mm and after about an hour they are starting to get chilled, but in the hottest part I never get hot and the coldest days, thats when they are worth every penny. Total confort. I have had a set of red ball and set of orvis and wouldn't trade my cabelas pair for both. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-ani.gif

My only trip to Cabelas was worth it just for the waders. The sales guy spent 30 minutes having me try on various pairs. If you don't anticipate doing much walking, 5 mm are great. Like spending all day in a tube.

Stockingfoots are the way to go. Whatever you get, make sure you have ample room in the feet. That is if you have poor circulation like I do, no amount of warm clothing helps if its is frigid outside and your feet are cold.

I bought a pair of those "high end" rubber waders for warm weather. I also use them for hike in lake fishing. They roll up into a small bag and stow away pretty good.

If you can swing it, pair of breathable waders in stockingfoot is worth a try. You can add all the clothes you need for cold weather. Movement is much more free. However, my fishing/hunting involves blackberries and worse. They do not stand a chance with blackberries

I got the Mad Dog Hip waders (lug boot type) off JHO.. My reasons are a bit different in that for one I use this type for work (hot high pressure cleaning) and fishing/hunting both..
I don't want to lug around wet hikers with me after using stocking feet waders. I don't like chasing the fish all the way into their home with chest waders and I like walking with the hip type folded down. (less leg sweat). If your needs are for all around use, going through mud areas, or just to get to the other side there of ..then rubber lugs maybe best for you. The inexpensive level you imply will either get you decent hippers or poor chest waders. It's all throw away or disposable material anyway when it comes right down to it. People love to get new gear all the time anyhow. Since your not sure what you want then get your feet wet first before larger expendatures..http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up-ani.gif

I bought a pair of Hodgman stocking foot neoprene waders in 1989 and I am still using them today.

if you want comfort, try breathable waders. you want a little warmth, just get a size bigger and wear a fleece or sweat pants under it. much more comfortable than the neoprene.
