Some Wal Marts have "Sentry" 10 gun and 14 gun safes for $198 and $325 respectively. The 14 gun weighs 270 lbs. Not the heaviest but it's DOJ approved.

Walmart got good prices. Turners has gun lockers that you can bolt to the ground and the wall for around $129. Works great as long as you bolt it. DOJ approved also.

I have had two from Visalia Gun Safes. I outgrew my first one.
Pro's
-Thick steel, firesafe for a few hours
-Nice features (pistol holders, different gun configurations, colors)
-Mom and Pop shop (will do custom work...like bolt rails on the bottom to secure to the floor)
-Solid construction and easily modified inside
-Reasonable prices (worth it in my opinion)
-Delivery option
Con's
-HEAVY. (this could be a Pro...I'm not sure I know of anyone who can lift 700 to 1300lbs without a pallet jack)
-No interior light (might be able to order it)
Good Luck!

Fowlers Gun Room has some safes the seem real reasonable prices.
I think the heavier the better.
Much harder to walk off with a very heavy safe, thaen a light one.
I bought a demo safe at the local gun show sevral years back.
I saved buy picking it up myself.
Picked it up on Sunday (last day of the gun show) so they didn't have to
take it back with them!!!
O!!! I also make my own light kit with 2 floresent lights, and a momentary
switch.
But I bought the Golden Rod with the safe.

I have a medium size sentry I got through costco for around $400. I would only go for a mechanical number lock. No battery to go empty and no key to loose or hide. Especially if you have kids, you know that they'll figure out where the key is eventually.

I used to have an Archery and Gun shop here in Raleigh NC. I sold a gun safe that is made locally by Drake Safe's (336-597-5059). The nice thing about these safes are that they are completely built of 1/4" steel. There is no gage material in these safes and all of these safes are lined with a 5/8" fire liner and they use the LeGard lock set. I had a customer that had a Liberty safe that had a 1/4" thick door but the body of the safe was 10 gage material. He had a break-in and the theives had enough time to go to the garage and get a pick ax to attack the safe with. They turned the safe over and busted into the top of the safe and peeled it open like a can of sardines. Needles to say they got about $35,000.00 worth of guns and about $15,000.00 of the wifes jewelry. Liberty safe company replaced the safe free of charge. When the insurance company setteled out he sold the Liberty safe and bought a safe from us. I guess the theives figured that he would be stocked back up because he had another break-in about 7 1/2 months later and this time when they attacked the safe, all they were able to accomplish was to knock the lock knob off the door and scratch up the paint job. I would look for someting of similar quality. Just my http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/two-cents.gif

In my opinion you should value your guns more than a couple of hundred dollars. Take an inventory of the value of your guns and take an average price. This should give you a ball park figure on what to pay for a safe. Do you want a SAFE or a metal locker. I paid $800 for mine and it is worth every penney. If I leave the house I don't worry at all. Burgulary or Fire....not a worry from me. Even if the house burns to the ground I'll still have my guns. Good luck to the guy that tries to break into the safe...not going to happen. Peace of Mind.

I've got a couple of American Eagle safes made by Cannon. I shopped around quite a bit before buying them. I like them real well.

How much do you want to spend?
Where are you going to keep it?
Buy the biggest safe that you can afford, because you will out grow it.

If money is no worry then IMO Fort Knox is tough to beat.

I want it to hold 12-16 guns. I'd like to have it bolted to the concrete foundation. Hopefully keep it under 800.00. Thanks for the heads up on the lincoln.
