Checking out some of the new proposals for this years big game booklet , ran across this . The 10 year waiting period looks to be a thing of the past . So those of you who drew recently can get back in the game . I'm going on 21 years with no tag , maybe this is the year .

Great, more competition for the few tags available. I am going on 15 years w/o a tag.

The point system we have now is kind of like a built in waiting system. With the 10 year wait on the point system the next chance you get for a tag will be 25+ years 10 years of waiting plus 15+ to draw a tag
Plus I am sure the fish and game hates to loose your $7 in application fee
The good thing with the point system is that if you stay in the draw you will eventualy get drawn and the guy down the street will not likely get drawn all the time/ everybody gets a tag at least once in thier lifetime, and thats a good thing, right?

Just yelled it to my wife. She said I better put her name in. She was drawn in 2003

I guess that depends upon how long you live. I have gone 20+ years without drawing already. Now people who have just drawn can get right back into the pot? I guess nothing in life is fair but they should at least give those of us that are now collecting bonus points a 5 year head start.

If you've applied the last two years, you have a 2-year/2 point head start. That should be enough.

The ten year wait doesn't matter. If you don't have max points all ready, your odds are very slim that you will draw a 10% tag, ever. Maybe an archery tag but the odds are still high. What sucks is the younger hunters that are just coming of age, will never have reasonable chance of drawing, unless the antelope population in Ca explodes. Ha Ha. Ed F

At some point there will the max point pool number will reach a high and stay around it.....will it be 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 points? I can't imagine a hunt taking 30 points or more. A lot of folks will drop out of the point game before they ever draw.....My guess is that rifle antelop tags will stabilize around a 15 - 20 point hunt. Bull elk may stabilize around a 20-25 points to draw....just a guess.....

I think we'll be able to accurately predict attrition rates (how fast people are dropping out of the max point pool in addition to those that draw) in another few years and can come up with reasonable estimates.

You may be right wmidbrook , but I actually would prefer if Ca. had a points system more like nevada does. Everyone goes in the same pot to draw with points being squared. The way Ca. does it, it is like wasting money unless you have max points. I don't plan on dropping out now, but if it takes 30 points, God might take me out of the drawing.

Well, at least there are some tags that we do have a chance to draw with less than max points. Unlike deer which is 10% of the tags, for antelope it's 25% of tags go into the second draw where all applicants get a crack at it. I'd have to look the 25% number up just to be sure but I think it's about that with some other rules around it.

Schoettingen, I agree with you for hunts that take more than 5 points to draw on average that I like a NV like system for drawing the tags because it definately gives people who are not in the max point pool more of a chance to draw a tag.

But, I also sure like being able to plan what I hunt when which you can do with a CA, OR or CO like point system.

The point system we have know ensures that if you stay in the game someday you will get drawn. This system is good if 1. you don't have enough tags for everyone 2. you do give out atlest 5-50% portion of the # of apllicants. This means if you give enough tags to get some people out of the draw every year. This system only works if you give enough tags to get 5-50% of the people off the top every year. This means that you can calculate how long it will take for you to get drawn. This system dosen't work if you only give out 1-5 tags like the sheep or Elk tags becuse not enough people are drawn every year to make the # of people at the top any smaller. This point system is great in CA if they give out enough tags. It ensures that if you stay in the draws you will get a tag. Before you had no garenty that you would ever get drawn in you lifetime, now you do if your not to old( sorry) This system will hep those that use to go a life time without drawing a tag now they will have at least one tag thats better than none. The bottom line is that if you do not give out any tags or few tags no system will make people happy.
With the current point system there are enough people with max points that it is a inherant 10-15 year waiting timeline.
The kids should be happy if they ever get a antelope tag and they will if they stay in the system This is not a tag that everyone gets every year but they will get it once or more times in there life time.

I'm glad they ended the waiting time That means that I can start appling agin this year http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif I will see another tag in my life time and I can't wait to bad I am a few points behind everyone else, Just did the math and it will take 25 years for my dad to draw a tag for sure http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-ren.gif it will take me longer

Well , I'll probably never have max points since I drew an antelope tag on the first year of the new system. Now I'm 3 years behind and I will probably never attain max points.

But I'll keep throwing my application fee into DFG's fund drive. At least it might help the wildlife some. Who knows lightning does strike twice... It's a cheap dream ...

I really had a great time hunting prong horns in Ca. They are magnificent animals to watch. Man are they FAST...
