I finally got to meet with my students in our fly tying club/class yesterday!!! What a blast!!! I taught them to tie a suspended midge! They loved it! I had kids racing to get the front seats so they could see better. I had a flex cam on the fly that I was tying and they were able to watch what I was doing on the TV. I also had a pic of the final fly and the recipe on the computer projector. It was great fun! Their flies weren't the nicest, but they were proud of them. I told them to keep their first fly so that they could mark their tying improvement from that one. They thought that was a good idea. I think they are going to catch on soon. The kids told me that they were excited to come to school yesterday because they knew they were going to get to tie their first fly. I'm just so thankful for all the people that donated to the club so that I could teach the kids a sporting activity. I'm also thankful I have a principal that values hunting and fishing and supported me in this club. I'm in the process of making a web page and when it is up, I post the link here so you all can see what the kids are learning!!

Julie that's awesome. What are the ages of the kids that are in the class?

The kids are 7th and 8th graders. They are the perfect age to get hooked on the sport. I'm going to take them bass fishing at the end of the year - hopefully they will all catch some fish!!
