View Full Version : Any shops in SoCal?
I have been trying to buy (well thinking of) a bow for the past couple of months. Finally, after seeing my friend take a nice pig with his, that did it for me, now I really can't wait to get one. I know most people recommend to go and shoot some bow to see what fits me best, well I plan on doing just that. My question is can anyone recommend a good proshop in SoCal? I could always look in the yellow pages, but I rather get a recommend from someone that has had some experience with a shop. Thanks in advance

Wally is one of the best bowhunters around and will set you up. Near the 60 & 215, just off the freeway.

Riverside Archery
Donna and Wally will take care of you. Let me know if you want to go there and I can meet you there and introduce you to them. They also have an indoor range where you can try out all their bows. I know Glendale is a ways for you to travel but worth the extra 45 minutes.

In Monrovia, off Huntington drive exit. About 5 lights down. Archer's Haven
Thanks guys for the help. I started doing some research already. Reading some sites and old post on the forum. The more I read the more I get interested and the more I realize I don't know much about archery. There is more to it than meets the eye. I definitly need to go to a proshop. I first I thought I could just order a bow and its package on-line, boy am I wrong.
I am thinking of just spending the extra cash and getting a good bow the first time around, could I do this with an $800 budget?
jdhowe75,
Thanks for the offer, I will send you an email when I am heading that way. 45 minute drive is nothing if its hunting related http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up-ani.gif
And a 3rd for Riverside Archery. I went in with my mind made up on buying a Whisker Biscuit and they talked me out of it. The one guy told me that if I didn't liek the new rest, he'd buy it back from me and order the Whisker Biscuit.
I didn't go back and order the Whisker Biscuit.
you also get something like two hours free range time with the purchase of a bow.
I still haven't used my range time, but one of these days we all need to pick a rainy day and meet down there and do a shoot.

2D archery in Van Nuys on Victory Blvd is a relatively new shop owned by Dave Dolbee. He is on the Pro Staff for Hoyt and really knows his stuff. He is also a hunter, so he will have a lot of insight into what you will need.

High Tech archery in Fullerton. Joe is a great guy and will set you up with the "right equipment" for you. A lot of shops try to sell you what they want or have in stock but Joe is very knowledgable and will hook you up. I just picked up a Mathews Outback and it is awesome, the quietest smoothest thing I've ever shot.

I'll have to disagree with you and recommend that people stay away from Hi Tech. I bought a new bow and arrows from them and everything was set up wrong. Nocking point was way off, the arrows were the wrong size and, worst of all, one cam was set at a completely different setting than the other.
And all this was after I ordered the bow and it came in. While I was waiting, I called and asked about several components that I wanted once the bow came in. Since I had to order a lefty, I wanted to be sure these lefty components would be in stock when the bow arrived. They assured me they had everything in stock. When the bow came and I went to pick out my components for installation, they had none of them in stock and hadn't even heard of several very well known brands.
I recommend Orange County Archery, which is next door to Turner's on Brookhurst in Fountain Valley. They've done alot of work for me for free unscrewing my bow after Hi Tech messed it up.
I've spoken to others who have had similar experiences at Hi Tech.

I'm with Greanleaf on Orange County Archery. Mike helped me build my bow and was very informative. I got to shoot several bows prior to my purchase. I love my Mathews Switchback. Good Luck

Definitely a second for Archery Sports in Simi Valley. Don Smith is a great guy to deal with. I stopped buying from Riverside years ago and wont go back. If you're closer to San Diego then check out Performance archery. Bob has a great shop FULL of awesome trophies. You wont be dissapointed with either. Good luck!
