tagged fish

I posted this on the fly fishing forum and got a mixed response so I thought I would try here . Does anybody know anything about the tags in the trouts gills. I found nothing in thier web site. The trout were 17 to 18 in. Just wondered if I was supposed to report them like a duck band .

from what I was told is....The F & G got tired of people calling all of the nice size (big) Trout caught here in the Sierras " Alpers Trout" ###and all of the dinks or fish with fugas " DFG fish" ###Whether this is the sole reason for the tags, I don't know, but I do know that they are not redeemable for money or Power Bait.....hronk
