I am hoping to take my first bear next week and I have a taxidermy question. The guy I talked with today told me that in 32 years he has never done a bear rug without the head, added that he has never heard of it.
Has anyone done a rug without the head? Is this unheard of?

Out of respect for my wife.
I have no mounts done to date of anything. She told me several years ago that she doesnt like that and would like any in the house.
With the rug, she is fine with it, just doesnt like the idea of having the head done with it. So again, out of respect for her, I have been checking into this.
Its looking like they just are not done that way. I did find one guy who said that anything is possible, and he would work with me if I wanted a rug without the head. I havent decided (since I dont have a bear yet) if I am still going to do that or if I will leave the head with the rug.
Just wondering if anyone here has had one done that way.

Regaurdless, of if it has been done that way, there is absolutely no reason that it couldn't be done, they can just cut it off.
As far as your wife not like mounts and stuff I hear you there, but lucky for me I have a room that I'm allowed to put what I want in it.

I've wondered about that myself, and I expect that just having the skin tanned would be quite a bit less money. Besides, that way, when I hear my wife coming up the driveway I can quickly roll it up and stick it in the closet where I keep my whiskey!

You guys need to buy some pants and learn how to wear them!!!!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-sideways-laff-aqua.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-ugly-lol-bashing-sign.gif
Well, I've tried that, Arlow, but every time I do she beats the hell out of me and then puts me on curfew for a month. It's just too close to my deer hunt to chance it.

Making a flat rug is possible and does not look bad in my opinion. Try to find some pictuers of some zebra rugs. The head is basically designed to lay flat.
