I have one for my New Englander and have had a lot of fun with it. Actually it led to me getting a Pedersoli 12 ga SxS that I hunt with often. I would recomend you go with a 12 ga. You can load it down if you want to, but you can't load the smallbore up. Also, availability of wads is much better for the 12 ga frontstuffer.

I have two Newenglanders. One a 50 Cal. and the other a 12 gauge. Both are left handers and I feel pretty lucky. I was looking, without much hope, for a 12 gauge barrel for my Lefty NE at a local gun show when I came across a New, Never Fired complete 12 Gauge lefty for $100.00 out the door.
Deal of the century for me and I am happy I got it. This is one fun gun and with the right loads it is the most devestating turkey gun I have ever seen. With wads I can get a twenty inch or better pattern at 40 yrds. Devestating.
Get the 12 you won't be disapointed.
