Upon further discussion with others, Bighorn67 and myself, are planning a VETERAN'S DAY JHO CAMPOUT at Ventura. We are going to head up to Ventura for some surf fishing and family camping. Both camps are within walking distances of each other. Possible to do a 1/2 or 3/4 boat out of Ventura on one of the days for the JHOers. Potluck dinners on some of the nights. While this is not the 'roughin it' type of camping, it does make it nice to bring the family and spouses. If you don't fish, you could head into Ventura and, dare I say http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif , shop. Or maybe take a side trip into Santa Barbara. Also, on Veteran's Day, there are some nice ceremonies in the area.

Any thoughts?

The Plan:

There are two choices of camps: One is to make reservations at VENTURA BEACH RV RESORT - RV sites are $37.40/night; Tent spots with water and electric are $33/night http://venturabeachrv.getwebnet.com/
We might be able to use the activity room for a JHO Potluck

The second other spot is EMMA WOODS BEACH CAMPGROUND: either NORTH (family) or GROUP.

GROUP: min of 9 people (fees: Primative [sites 1-4] is $66 or RV [1 site] is $186) Fee would have to be divided between the users. There seems to be no open reservations for the group sites (5 of them) on Friday night. I will try to call tomorrow to see about that fact.

[From the State Site] Group RV site is limited to 50 people and 20 RV's at the site. NO HOOK-UPS, or WATER. Self contained RV's only. NO water available for fill-up. DO NOT confuse with Emma Wood North Beach. General Information: Site is 1/2 acre unpaved parking area which is primarily for RV's. Site is within walking distance of beach and river. Good swimming and surfing in moderate ocean temperatures. NO lifeguard services. Site has 1 centrally located fire pits, no tables. Store is 1/2 mile away. Park Kiosk Hours: Hi Season: 8am-10pm Lo Season: Varies Fri/Sat

[From the State Site; Group sites 1-4]
Group size is limited to 30 people, and 5 vehicles near the site. TENT CAMPING ONLY. COLD showers. Do not confuse with Emma Wood North Beach!
Very limited parking of RV;'s, or buses bringing in tent campers. May be reserved with Group Camps 2, 3 and 4 for a total of 120 people and 20 vehicles. General Information: Extra vehicles must park 100 yards away from site. Good swimming and surfing in moderate ocean temperatures. NO lifeguard services. Store is 1/2 mile away. Park Kiosk Hours: Hi Season: 8am-10pm Lo Season: Varies Fri/Sat

NORTH: [following taken from the State Web Site]
Family sites are 1st COME 1st SERVED ONLY. Family sites accomodate Self-contained vehicles ONLY. There is no running water, and there is no electricity available to campers. There are 90 sites, and due to beach erosion, they vary in size roughly between 25'-30' in length. NO TENT CAMPING. Dogs must be kept on a lesh at all times. Dogs are not permitted on the beach.
There are frequent park closures due to high tides, which is common in the winter (October - March).
Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additonal vehicles will be charged per night at the park.

I'm up for the Ventura RV park. I like hookups. A couple of things have to pan out so I can go.

Ain't that the middle of waterfowl/upland season? Shouldn't you be out hunting?

There are some good quail and dove spots in the mountains around Ojai. It would be easy to get there from Ventura.

Depending on the hunting seasons, this might be fun to try to make it. It's a long haul, but what the heck..?

You local guys, keep the rest of us posted.

http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-wave-hello-yellow.gif Hey since I live in Ventura, I would love to meet some of you folks. Sounds like you guys are a little older than me though. Im just a little younging. Would it be alright if maybe I stop by. I know a few spots to hunt for quail about 30 to 45 minutes away. Sounds like it would be something cool to put some faces to some of these screen names. Let me know. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-rock.gif

Thanks for the offer. We might have to look into that.
I know I am planning to head up Thursday morning or Weds. after-kids-get-out of school. They have Friday off as well. Just don't tell the wife that it is not so much my interest in their schooling, but when I ask for the school calender, it is to find windows of vacation time. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif This is a big block of time.

Any JHOer is welcome to stop by and enjoy the day, or campfire. I know I will be doing some surf fishing, both slinging flies and dunking squid or sand crabs.

Some might even think about doing a 1/2 or 3/4 day boat. Others might just want to tour the Mission or do some shopping http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hair-raisin-blue.gif

I still have a pile, Fritz, and would be glad to toss some into that dutch oven of yours.

Might even have some fresh, if I can ever get time to get out in the woods. New jobs suck!

Rookies, we don't age discriminate at all! Come on out. It'd be nice to have a young whippersnapper to fetch beers from the cooler while us old codgers kick back in the shade. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif

I just booked 2 RV sites and 2 tent sites at the Ventura Beach RV resort for Nov 11-14. RV sites are $37.40. Tent sites are $33 allow two tents each. I reserved my site seperately. Send me an email to reserve one of these 4 sites if you want one. First come first served. If you reserve one, let me know if you have to cancel.

I have 48 hours before the trip to cancel any sites that aren't reserved. I don't want to end up paying for sites that aren't used.

Dave, email on the way.

Still can't confirm due to other things happening at that timeframe, but I'd like to have a spot to set up... definitely CAN manage the 48 hour notice anyway.

OK.........Let's get a final count on who is coming to this thing.

I have maybes from Speck and Bubba. Are you guys in? Fpscabs and I are in. I won't be getting there until Friday the 12th. Do we want to try and get a day boat, or just surf fish?

If you guys are coming, just show up at the Ventura Beach RV resort and tell them your reservation is under my name. I have two RV sites and two tent sites reserved in addition to my own. You can pay for your site when you get there.

Fpscabs can now only come up for a day, not the whole weekend. I'm still willing to do this if I can get some takers. Otherwise, I'll go deer hunting.

OK guys, it looks like the campout for Veterans Day weekend is off. There are not enough people interested. I am going to call this weekend and cancel the sites I have reserved. Maybe we can get something going for the Spring.
