I was getting concerned that the day of the reasonably priced Russian Captures was slipping away. I happened to call SOG when they had some on weekly special for $160 and I ordered one.
I received a 1941 made "ar" that had the trade mark Russian black paint on the metal and that nasty looking dark red shellack. It did have a shiny bore. Went to work with some paint stripper, steel wool, MEK and some Tung oil. The natural wood look has been restored and the rifle now looks much better.
Now I need to get to the range and see how it shoots.
