This may have been covered before but.....

###What paints do you use to touch up the old dekes? I have some older, peeling mallards I would like to touch up. Any preferences? Suggestions?

Thanks

Herter's paints seem the best. Scrub em, scrape em, wipe them with laquer thinner. After painting spray them with a satin "diamond hard" varathane.

I went to walmart and bought some paint for I think 35 cents a tube and use it alot. I have not had a "real" problem with the Cheap paint peeling off.

Hey there Swampy.

I mix a little coot poop into my paints to give them that stinkiness that all ducks love.

You've heard how good ducks see but you wouldn't believe how well they can smell. They can smell fresh poop for miles. And we all know that fresh poop means "food". ###

Thanks to Jay and Wildlifedesigner. I think I will try a little from both of your posts. Hey Jay, does satin "diamond hard" varathane make the decoys shine? No thanks to Cootcreamer. What's next? Motopoop? Not a pretty picture. You are one sick cat!

If you use the satin finish the dekes come out with a nice gleam like a well groomed duck but they won't "shine". Whatever you do don't spray them with "high gloss".

Try it on one drake and see how you like it. Real birds are not flat in coloration. After I was done touching mine up and spraying them with varathane, my wife walked out and gasped because they looked so real. ###

Coot poop? Sounds like a mental lapse to me. Somebody's been sniffing something. Wonder what it was? ### ###

For a sheen try Armor all, looks real good once its dry. If I remember right it will last about 2-3 weeks.
