Right now, I have Black Fly's 'Tsi Tsi' Fly.. But, I'd like to own another pair. I liked the looks of the Smiths 'Stance' I think it was.. I noticed onSmith's (http://www.smithsport.com) website they list what size they are.. Like, Large frame and so on. I would need a large frame. I dont like the squard off type like the Spy MC's. I'm hoping to spend less that $100.. I found a pair of Smith's for 29.99 on eBay.. But i think their to small.. Any suggestions on larger sunglasses.. I'm looking for these companys: Black Fly's, Smith, Spy ( just not square ones ), Oakley. But, If their are any other good ones out there.. I dont like wan't to cheap of a pair.. I have had bad experiences with them ( Frame always gets tweaked ) Thanks Guys http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-rock.gif

Hey YH.

Check out Campmor.com (http://www.campmor.com) for some great prices on some really nice shades. They have Bolle, Vuarnet, Serengeti and a few others at incredible prices. Some of the styles are a little outdated, but you never know.

I like to wear the Vuarnet "Cats" under my motorcycle helmet. When they came out, these things were selling in the $120+ range. I get them from Campmor for $19.95.

Whatever you get make sure they are polarized. Smith has a few polarized models that look good. I have Maui Jim shades and love them.

More fashionable than these???

The cats are nice because the frame is sturdy. Too many of the frame choices today are either too narrow for my face or too thin to prevent damage.

Prohunter,

They do look a little funny in modern company, but style and fashion never were my strong points anyway.

I wear Ray Ban aviators/outdoorsman when I'm not on the bike. They are a little more subtle, and way more comfortable. But those big , shatterproof lenses on the Vuarnets offer great protection on the bike... both from the sun and from bugs and the occasional pebble.

Private Pilot sunglasses review (http://oakley.com/private_pilot/)

Nuff said, but then again, it's only your eyes, double vision and clarity should really be that big of an issue while hunting.

Have you ever had eye straign while looking through bad bino's? The same thing with your sunglasses, but hours and hours a day.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but check out the data of the Private Pilot test results, your Costa Del Mars tested near the bottom of the list.

Don't worry though, it's only your eyes we're talking about.

I agree with Bighorn67, go with Maui Jims. I have worn them now for 3 1/2 years and am very happy with them. They also stand behind their product. I twisted mine up badly about 6 months after I bought them. I had placed them temporarily on top of my head and bumped into an overhead cabinet. They replaced them, no questions asked, without my receipt (which I had lost).

I use the glass lense type for day to day wear, and their polarization process is the best. They are coated on the inside as well to reduce glare from those times the sun shines in from the back of the lense. I have another pair with the plastic (polycarbonate) lenses I use while shooting and hunting, since glass will shatter. The drawback is that the plastic will scratch much easier than the glass lense.

Never clean either type lense with your shirt, paper towel, etc unless absolutely necessary. If you have to do this, remove as much dust and dirt as possible prior to wiping GENTLY. The prefered method is to rinse first under running water, then wash gently with a mild dish soap, rinse and dry with a soft, clean towel. Again wipe gently. They will last much longer............I do this each morning before work or play.

They are a bit pricey but well worth the investment. Cheap glasses can be distorted and bad for your eyes, especially if worn a lot. I work outside much of my time and rely on my glasses for comfort and protection. Just my 2 cents....

seems funny how oakley run those tests and all of their glasses are on the top of the list... I have owned oakleys in the past and i think you are just buying a name..

I tested my Maui Jims and found that they do have the prismatic effect like the pilot's test said, but there is no distortion. They are as clear as a bell. I still stand by them. They have served me for 7 years.

I had the Maui Jims, and noticed the same thing. Pretty amazing what the back window of a car looks like with them. I still liked them a lot... until the horse stepped on them.

Vuarnets and several others tend to affect my depth perception. I tried playing ball while wearing them a while back. Missed some easy catches until I figured out what was going on.

Haven't tried the Oakleys, but they have a good reputation for a reason. But I'm don't really like the funky styles.

Oakley didn't run the test - Private Pilot did. It was a completely independent test.

I have a pair of Costa del Mar Havana's with the blue glass lenses and they are by far the best glasses I have ever looked thru. I won them in a raffle or else i would probably never have spent the $ 230.00 they cost but if I ever need another pair I will. Maybe they aren't respected by private pilot but they sure are by most professional fishermen especially the offshore guys! Also notice there is only one model of Costa's they tested and I bet they were not the glass lenses. Try that test with the top of the line glass and maybe the results would be different. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif

http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banana-man-yeah.gif Another vote foe Costa Del Mar sunglasses! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banana-man-yeah.gif

I've been wearing them for 17 years and won't wear anything else. You can find them at fishing equipment stores. The model I wear were running about $80 four years ago. YH, if you have not bought some already, do check out Costa Del Mar!

Also, they have a decent warranty. They will not replace scratched lenses, but they do replace broken frames. I've sent mine back 3-4 times over the years.

Just to let you guys know. My Costa's ( http://216.25.100.116/miva/4.12/merchant.m...e=B_Combination (http://216.25.100.116/miva/4.12/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CDM&Product_Code=B_Havana&Category_Code=B_Combination) ) broke last month at the temple hinge causing them to fall to the floor breaking one lense. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hair-raisin-blue.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-crying-blue.gif I sent them back to the company explaining what happened. I recieved them back a few weeks later. Two new lenses and two new temple pieces. Like brand new! No charge, covered under warranty! Needless to say I am very happy cause I cannot justify the cost to replace them right now. Great glasses, great company, and great service! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

I know you usually get what you pay for, but you can also get good stuff at low prices if you search.
I got a pair of polarized amber PolarVisions at an outdoor store for $13.00. This pair has great optical quality, fit and style. I have an astigmatism that makes my eyes light sensitive, and they're great for driving, hunting and shooting. I went back and got a second pair as backup so I won't have to fret over costly shades. I'm not knocking anyone's choices, just telling what works for me.
