I just got done with a 10 month wait fr the BATF "Form-6" importation paperwork to come back on a pair of Cadet Martini's in 22 Hornet, and an Anschutz bolt action 22 Hornet I bought in AU. Well, the paperwork returned with an approval for the Anschutz but they denied import on the Cadet Hornets as "modified military firearms are no longer allowed to be imported..."

A stock Cadet would have been fine but the sporter Hornets are no more. Just a word to the wise -before you go through the paperwork! ~AMMOe

I'm a little curious to try & understand why they should block such a simple un-sophistocated design of firearm when you guys normally appear to have such great freedom.

If it were a former military firearm but not modified would that have been acceptable?

For a single shot firearm it seems like a lot of trouble?

Can you import without the barrel and receive the barrel separately or with a stock barrel and then swap w/the dealer later? I doubt if anyone will be measuring extractors, etc. Just a thought.

I don't know about the actions. I guess I'll have to wait until the copy of the BATF letter arrives from my importer. I"m assuming ANY modification is verboten, and I'm sure it is a clause meant to cover any modifications unfamiliar to the BATF. Sure seems silly that an 1890's single shot would be banned but....

I feel sorry for PMI who was destined to get one the Hornets to convert to 25-20 or 256 Win Mag. I really wanted the Anschutz.

My Problem?? I have one of the Martini's, paid for, non-refundable, sitting at an AU dealer. Anybody know someone in AU (or some other country) that wants a sporterized (fully) heavy barrel hornet with scope?? Cheap to free? Otherwise it sits until it rots. ~AMMOe

G'day fellas....English, thanx so much for the heads-up on this one mate, very much appreciated!

I'm a couple of hours south of Sydney, Australia, and very interested in the .22 hornet.

AMMOe, please email me at punkydrewster@bigpond.com with all the details of the rifle, the dealer/location, and what sort of remuneration you are looking for.

I don't actually have my centrefire license, but was looking to get it over the next few months...this gives me a bloody good excuse. If our emails are promising then i will get an application away by the end of next week and be able to purchase the rifle 6-8 weeks later..........i'd be happy to send you some sort of deposit in the meantime providing i can inspect the rifle (i can sort that out this end if it is interstate).

Hope to hear from you very soon,
Drew. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banana-man-yeah.gif

Lets hope that we shooters can snatch a "Win" "Win" from the jaws of the bureaucrats on this one eh?

Drew, E-mail's enroute with details. English, thanks!

PS I called "Thad Scott" to see if they had any peep sights for the Martini Cadet 22 Target rifles and was told they sold out of every Cadet in stock. No rear sight, either! I wonder if the BATF snobbery has put a run on these neat little guns??

English: If in your travels you ever can come across a BSA tang sight for a Cadet or 1215 target rifle (I thnk that's the model) let me know, eh?? Scarce on this side of the pond. ~AMMOe

Howdy! Where you been??

Right now I'm trying to figure out if the rifle is mine or not. The dealer is claiming that they never heard from me after the initial downpayment of $100AU. Last year I recieved an email from them asking status (because it was a consignment gun) and I told them to charge it to my account and pay the fellow off. When I recieved the "non-import" notification I sent them an e-mail asking them to (http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/afraid_face.gif) saw the reciever in half and mail the mutilated gun to me as a "non-gun" for me to scavenge the parts from. No response. Figured they were mad or puzzled.

Finally an AU buddyof mine called them on my behalf and got his scalp lifted by the irate owner. I'm going to let them contact me, I think. I've gone the distance on that one and I'm ready to write it off. ...and I notice that they have YET to e-mail me despite the urgency conveyed by the owner to my AU friend.

So, to answer your question? It's gotten nowhere! Too bad. ~AMMOe

Looking in the bright side..................

If you still want one - I may have found a sight for a 12/15 BSA Martini for you?

If you could send a picture of the receiver I can hopefully confirm the model / fit is correct between the gun and the sight?

I'm also tryng to get the dealer to send e a picture / description of the sights as he aparrently has more than 1.

Regards,

English.

PS - Ive been doingwell thanks - just busy with work http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lame-sign.gif

English: Sorry this has taken so long! I was out of town for a week and just found the post about the sight tonight (at work!). I will photo the reciever area of my Martini today after I get home. Again. Sorry! I'm itching for one of those sights!~AMMOE

That's no problem I've been away myself and I will pick up on it again when you have time to get back to me.

No mad rush - its kind of sobering to think the guns will probably be around sfter we are gone. Still be kind of nie to maximise the opportunities with the things whilst we can!

All the best,

English.
