Man,
I have been looking for this info. Thanks! I will be at the Costa Mesa show. Gotta buy my first high powered rifle. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be much obliged.

Buck-eye,
When I was making that choice just a coupleyears ago I decided I wanted a good general purpose rifle and bought a Savage Scout in .308Win. I am very happy with this gun and would make the same decsion again. Having said that I'd look at either a 300 WSM/WM or a 7MM Rem Mag. they make great all around guns and still leave you wanting a .375 H&H, a 45-70 lever gun a .223, a 257 Roberts etc. Do this though. Decide on a gun now and keep looking at other things and see if you keep going back to the same gun. I wanted the Savage and over the months it took to save I looked at and considered several other guns and calibers but after a short while I kept coming back to the Scout rifle as the one that best suited my needs and you know what it still is, but I have since added a Marlin 1895G in 45-70 and want a .338 WM and...and..and... http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif

Buck-eye, your in the san diego area right? You might check out Whole Sale Guns (http://www.wholesaleguns.net) in Santee. I got my Ruger 300winmag there and got a pretty good deal.
