Well tonight was the first chance I have had to get back out since my swim last Thursday. It turned out to be a great evening. I went to a spot I had been seeing a ton of activity on the clover field. As soon as I started to walk I saw tons of footprints. I decided to walk out toward the middle of the field as the edges looked like they had been pounded. After walking the field with no luck I remembered a small patch of woods close by. I figured the deer had to be spending sometime holed up in it before coming to the clover field. I hadn't walked 50 yards into it when I scoped up the first and what turned out to be the biggest of the evening. The best part was someone else's boot print was less than 2 feet from the shed. I like picking those ones up. As I searched a little more for the other side it became clear to me with tracks about 5-6 feet apart, that the person in there before me had grid the area. He must have found the other side and it appears he did quite a bit of walking looking for the match. I spent about 20 minutes and decided to move on. That's when I found the freak horn. Two of it's tines were barely visable above the grass. Then I decided to check another area and picked up a small 3 point that has a small fork on the brow tine. I took field photos with my 35mm tonight. I did stop at a buddies on the way home and have him snap some digitals for me to post tonight. Here is the 3 of them.

Here is a photo of the freak shed. It is a year old, but not a chew on it.

Deershed if you ever get out this way, we will get together and tromp some ground. I have access to more ground than I can walk by myself.

Unbeleivable base on that 5 point. Great to see that kind of mass. Maybe I should get less discouraged when I see boot tracks and get down to business. And the year old freak shed. What a day, Congrats!

Your single day hunts beats my season long ones by a longshot! I would love to come across either one of those! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

I gotta agree with everyone. That bruiser would be something close to a career shed for me and what Iowa's picked up so far would be a very good year for me..very good. Mass and character do it for me. Beautiful sheds.....the big one must've slipped in and dumped that one after the other guy gridded the area. At least you found the one.

man you are killing me! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bowdown-purple.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bowdown-purple.gif Awesome sheds, especially the base on that one, reminds me of one my uncle found a few years back, there's a pic of it in my webshots. The shed's base is about the same as a pop can, the most amazing part was we had never seen the buck, and we never did, I don't know what happened to him http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-shakehead-blue.gif
