Well, I for one am not sure what it does. ###

It may be to help keep the hot sun rays from cooking the surrounding electronics, even tho the lens is suspose to focus on the center sensor, some rays may scatter onto the other components. ###

Aside:
Just think how hot the focus sunrays would be on that center sensor when the sun shines directly into the unit.....

But, back to your question, I just don't know ###

there is usally a square white piece that has a hole cut out for the sensor itself and the photo resistor also that is usually in front of the circuit board between the circuit board and the lens. ### i never use this piece .

I took apart one that did not have one in it too but like they said, dont know whats its for but works just the same as ones with them.

long lunch break at the Regent factory that day and they forgot the white piece.

When you mount the PIR sensor inside the housing and glue the fresnal lens flat we don't use the plastic piece so it must not be critical or even needed.

Tinhorn, it's really a recontipulating chingadarus. Latin for thing-a-majig.

Or it could be a case of returned goods after they fried the board and didn't bother to put it back in. ###Seeing that a few are returning cameras and sensors to the stores after they have messed them up instead of adding them to their inventory of personal extra components. Appears we have to look real good at the units and packaging real good.
WMart is famous for taking returned goods and placing them right back on the shelf even after being told the thing was broken or did not work.

The piece helps to focus the light but as Spect and others stated you can do with out it.

On the ms20 and most all pir's the funnel is a way to get the most light to the photo eye, and also shield the heat from electronics to help keep the sensor from working when not needed. ###
### ###On the RS pir, you should notice that there is a shield ( a small piece a foam before getting to the output of the unit.) I use a plastic (white shield on all my units at the sensor of the pir)
