First of First -time here. Just joined and really enjoyed all the information posted on the forum as well as the other sites. ###I was turned onto this site from photo.net when I asked the question about making animal camera traps. In fact I was allready part way there. I had purchased a radio shack PIR and a camera to take apart. Unfortunitaly the wrong camera. Then I found this place.

Ok so let me lay it out, you heard it and seen it before, but I am completely electrical stupid. I hope someone can help. Following the printed instructions I had printed a few days ago on the Radio PIR I was stuck because I did not have a photo of the job. I came back on to this site and the link was no longer available. Hope it shows back up.

I have an Owl PF and I wired it per instructions with two wires. When I connect the wires everythinng works, flash, shutter speed and film advance. So no problem there.

On the Radio Shack PIR, I think I got it all working correctly, because the red light flashes in chime mode when ever I pass my hand over the PIR. However, the problem is when I marry the two together. I use the relay and the anodid, in the right direction red wire etc. But when the camera is hooked up the led screen on my camera either goes blank or freezes and no photo is taken. I have even hard wired the red led light to the same sire as the camera and it works.

I think my problem may be with the relay. I have the 12 VDC relay part no 275-233, but I never hear a switch or click or anythig as mentioned in other posts. Maybe this is defective. Or I may have hooked up the wrong terminals. On the relays there are two posts on opposite ends of the long side and two on the opposite side. Which ones do I use?

Right now I have my speaker wires hooked along the long side connectors, with the diode laid accross and the silver band close to the red wire. I have directly wired my camera to the two ends of the relay and it still doesn't work. I have also tried with a switch as well as using the information found on previous posts on woring switches.

Still the same result.

Maybe I have a bad relay, I am off to Radio Shack to pick up another in a bit. Hopefully someone wil have some insight.

Thanks in Advance.

If you are using the reed relay, the contacts at the ends of the "tube" are the "normally open contacts". The other contacts are for the positive and negative and aren't polarity sensitive.

Well I am on hold. I took everything apart, cleaned all the old solder off and recut the wire ends. Put it all back together and it seemed to work out ok. Loaded some film in it and it got stuck halfway on frame 2 it didn't advance it all the way. Then one of my camera wires came loose. After trying to resolder that wire it appears I fried the camera some how. It doesen't even make the shutter trigger go of and I can't get the flash to work. So back to the drawing board tomorrow with another camera.

I am having and learning so I consider this a temporary set back.
