Hi all,
Just wondering why we can't use some other cameras that are currently being used in deer cams such as the Olympus, etc??
I would like to find a narrower bodied camera to make a super small unit.
Any thoughts?

Hi bradleydale,
Many cameras enter into a "sleep mode" if left turned on but unused (don't know if the Olympus cam does or not). That is one major reason not to use them. ###To defeat the sleep mode, you have to build some logic / timer circuits to keep the camera awake. ###The Canon Owls, Infinity Jr and I'm sure other cams don't really go to sleep - so they are easy to use for a home-brew cam.
I did make a circuit to keep my Fuji AF-60's awake, check:

See the "not-so-basic" timer section.
It could just be that nobody has yet tried many camera models. ###Gets sort of expensive to keep buying cams only to have them not work. ###I have a bunch of "duds" laying around the house. ###The Infinity Jrs are a bit smaller than the Owls, so you might use that camera. ###As far as I know, It's the best choice for home-brew trail camera use.
