I've got an M11 tag that allows me to hunt the entire California B1 zone starting last weekend. I went up on Saturday but had to come back when my newly replaced tranny overheated on the first hill. The trucks in the shop now, but I wanted to know what I was missing. If anyone lives in the area, are the bucks rutting yet? I'm going back as soon as the truck is out of the shop, I'm just going crazy sitting around town http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hitting-self.gif

Anyway, MATT... Your no help http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-gunfighter-yellow.gif Do you know this unit http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-help-green.gif
I just talked to a private landowner that hunts during November through the PLM program, and he says there is very little rut activity. I don't know if that means it's coming, over or just going to be slow this year. Like I said before, I'm going nuts sitting around town, while I should be in the mountains. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/afraid_face.gif
BTW, they sent my M11 tag along with my Del Norte Roosevelt tag.... http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif California was very good to me this year. Obviously they looked at the amount of taxes I'm paying and said "this guy deserves a break. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-2drunks-singing.gif See pictures of my bull on my web site.

Burgerman, How could the elk in the pic be your elk this year? J and G Outdoors labeled it as a "9x8 CA Elk 2002". 2002 was last year.
For your M-11 tag try the area around Lake Pillsbury. A friend of mine was just up there for turkey hunting and said he saw a few small bucks sniffing behind some doe. That was on the A-zone side of the lake though. But you never the same may be happening on the B-zone side. Good luck.

The "Featured Outfitter" photo was the guide I used, and that was from one of his clients last year. Do a photo search for Roosevelt elk, and you will find mine. Not quite that big, but a B&C bull just the same. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bowdown-purple.gif

my brotherinlaw has been drawen for that hunt 3 times, he hunted south fork
ridge, north and south of highway 36. he saw lots of good bucks, but never got
the big one. He killed 3x3 & 4x3 diden't get one the first year. I went that year
with him, and saw a couple of big ones, that was wy he diden't get one. The ones
he did get were 18 & 20 inchs. the ones we saw were over 24. what part of the zone are you going to hunt, the bucks on south fork were in rut that time of year,
and had to look around a bit to fined them.
"...transmission overheated on the first hill..."
Yep, sounds like a Ford automatic to me....

In Ford's defense, I've never had problems with it, and done this kind of driving a lot. It's just old and a case of bad timing. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-crying-blue.gif I'm just thankful I got it off the mountain!
