Never tried trad. archery, just wondering if the bows in cabelas (Viper delux) would be one to avoid or if any wood bow will at least do the trick. I know all bows are not created equal, but rather is there anything I should watch out for?

In my experience, it's a lot easier to find a good "cheap" recurve than longbow--I've only shot one longbow that retailed for less than $300 that I considered a pretty good bow, but I have bought lots of recurves for less than $100 (used) that were good shooters. I would avoid PSE traditional bows.

I have had excellent luck with PSE traditionals.

Hello, I have shot the Viper longbow and to be honest I didn't like the hand shock. LBR is right, I picked up a 50 pound Bear recurve on E-Bay for 75.00, I use it for bowfishing. Give E-Bay or simular a try, bet you can find a better bow for same amount or cheaper. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif
