DEAD CREEK AND MUD CREEK CONTROLLED WATERFOWL HUNT DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 22

Applications are available for controlled waterfowl hunting permits to be used at two Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department wildlife management areas. Interested hunters must apply by September 22.

Hunting under controlled conditions for ducks and geese at Mud Creek in Alburg and Dead Creek in Addison has been popular since the early 1970's. Applications for permits for these two areas are available from Vermont Fish & Wildlife offices in Essex Junction, Addison, St. Johnsbury, Barre, Waterbury, Springfield, and Pittsford.

Applications must be filled out correctly and postmarked no later than September 22, 2003. A public drawing to award hunting permits will be held September 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area headquarters off Route 17 in Addison. Attendance is not required. Successful applicants will be notified before the start of the hunting season.

In addition to the two state controlled hunting programs, the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also offers controlled duck hunting on selected areas. The deadline for Missisquoi NWR controlled hunt applications to be delivered at refuge headquarters is 4:30 p.m. on September 19. Interested hunters may obtain an application by contacting the refuge headquarters (868-4781).
