All of my food plots are in areas that have never been farmed. I spray Round Up before i plant and kill everything. But as soon as the disc touches the soil it turns up thousands of dormant seeds. Ive been planting plots for 5 years now and really thought i had my problems solved this time around. I mixed up a healthy tank of Round Up and burnt everything. One month after planting i have a nice field of..........grass, thistles, ragweed, and hemp. I guess my question is what can i spray with that wont kill off my plantings? I planted all Tecomate this year......Monster Mix, and Lab Lab. Plus one plot of chufa for the turkeys. The seeds are growing down under all the weeds....just cant get to the sun.

I think in this case the best thing you can do is to mow it, rake off the junk then mow it again in a few weeks, then wait a few more weeks and mow it again.
Problem weeds do not comeback well.

i went ahead and mowed it off monday afternoon. I just hope my plantings will come back. Lots of money down the drain if not.

You can also try spraying your plot with a grass or broadleaf herbacide, like Poast, after you plant your mix.

will that kill off chickory, peas, clover, and rape?? cause they are considered broadleaf.

What we do is spray Roundup and let the weeds die, then till the ground, then after weeds start to grow again we spray and let die then till and plant.
Once the clover and other plants start to grow and get tall enough we mow it with a brush hog to keep the sunlight to the clovers. I don't know how tall your other plants get or if they are supposed to be mowed? Is rape a taller plant? I think so.
A broad leaf spray will kill clover!

yeah thats my problem. I cant use a normal broadleaf spray. Most of the plants in Tecomate, Biologic and Whitetail institute are considered broadleafs. Maybe i should just plant corn for a few years so i can spray and get every weed killed. Its such a waste of time thought since my plots are small the deer mow the corn off before it gets a chance to grow.
