Fishermen long have used electric motors for maneuvering their boats for fishing. Now they can go electric for primary propulsion, too.

The eCycle Marine H.O. 6 is an electric outboard that its maker claims has the thrust of a 10-horse gas engine. With four 180-amp-hour batteries, eCycle says, it will run 10 hours at 4 knots, 45 hours at 2.5 knots. At its top speed of 7 knots, though, it will run only about an hour.

The motor has two counter-rotating propellers and fits on standard or high transoms. It weighs just 60 pounds, not counting those batteries. It makes little noise, emits no fumes and requires almost no maintenance.

The price is $3,995 from http://www.ecyclemarine.com.
