View Full Version : Hunting and packing

I'm just getting my feet wet on this subject, kind of testing the waters.
I have horses and mules, have hunted and packed all of my life. I just had a knee replaced
so I'm not as mobile as I used to be. I usually pack in with a hunting buddy who also has
horses for packing and riding. Between the two of us, we can go in and stay for a good
while.
I've packed on and off for 35 years, and have great animals, quiet and gentile, and very
nice equipment, camps, and tack.
What I'm looking into is hooking up with someone who knows an area that is remote, but
has good elk hunting, who would like to pack in and do some elk hunting.
I'll bring my livestock, and all necessary equipment, I just need a place to go that is
productive, and someone who knows where we are going and how to hunt that specific
area.
The logistics of setting up a trip like this are immense, it may already be too late for this
year, getting tags and all, but not too early to start planning for nest year. If I don?t get
started, I'll never get it done.

Doghouse,
Sorry to hear about the knee; hope all goes well with you. Your adventure offer sounds like a good one, something I've always wanted to do. Someone here is bound to take you up on your offer!

Thanks for the post.
I'm working on my knee, my horses and mules in hopes for a good hunting season this year. As soon as I know that my knee will take the punishment, I'll be starting on a few local trips packing into the Sierras. I have a 7 year old son that is bugging me about going camping on the horses. I'm going to enjoy this summer.

I wish I lived out in the wilderness so I could help. I have always wanted to do that in Idaho.

I don't live in the wilderness anymore, it felt like I did when I packed for a living.
We, my family and I, pack into the wilderness areas camping. It is my prefered form of vacation. I pack in when I hunt, and I'm always looking for good fishing.
It is our lifestyle.

I dropped you an email about this. I have too many places back in wilderness areas to count in NE Oregon. Let me know what your ideas are and places you're familiar with and maybe we can make something work. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

Tailchaser,
Thanks for the e-mail.
I'm still interested, and am already getting my horses ready for next year.
