Trout Stocking to Shift From Yamhill County's Willamina Pond to Hampton Pond
CLACKAMAS — Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has changed April and May trout stocking schedules for the Willamina area of Yamhill County due to a shift in public angling access from Willamina Pond to Hampton Pond in May.
The city of Willamina will continue to provide angler access to Willamina Pond through Sunday, May 4. After that date the site will be closed to the public as the city expands its new sewage treatment facility. Trout were last stocked in Willamina Pond in mid-March and city officials hope all trout will be fished out before the pond closes.
The expected opening of Hampton Pond to the public has been delayed until mid-May. Trout scheduled for Hampton Pond will be retained at ODFW hatcheries until the pond opens according to Hal Boldt, fish stocking coordinator for ODFW's Northwest Region.
"Anglers will appreciate the new trout fishing site at Hampton Pond when it opens," said Boldt. "Hampton is about four and one half times the size of Willamina Pond and has more depth and structure that will provide good conditions for trout. As the city develops a park surrounding the pond, fishing access will also improve." Hampton Pond is located on Yamhill Street in Willamina.
Stocking schedules are posted on ODFW’s Web site at http://www.dfw.state.or.us and local offices have schedule information. Anglers are reminded that last minute scheduling changes are sometimes necessary.
