CASPER -- The Wyoming Fly Casters donated $1,000 to Wyoming’s Access Yes Program to purchase public hunting and fishing easements onto private lands.
“We try and help out any way we can to increase fishing opportunities throughout the state,” said Richard Soffe, Wyoming Fly Casters treasurer. “The fly casters are concerned about Wyoming’s current drought situation and wanted to support the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s efforts to increase areas available to fishing.”
In 2003, there are 110 lake/pond acres and 82 stream miles of fishing enrolled in the Walk-in Fishing Areas for pubic access. Pick up Walk-In Area Fishing Atlas at license agents, G&F offices or access the info at http://gf.state.wy.us. “Thanks to contributions from the Wyoming Fly Casters and other organizations and individuals, the Access Yes program is growing and providing new places for hunters and anglers to enjoy their pastimes,” said Matt Buhler, G&F state access coordinator. From July 1, 2001 to June 31, 2002, there was nearly $150,000 donated to Access Yes, all of which went for easements. The Access Yes program is part of the G&F’s Private Lands /Public Wildlife Access Program.
Hunters and anglers can donate whenever they apply for or purchase licenses. For more information, contact Buhler at (307) 473-3400.
