FISH RECORDS SHOWCASE VERMONT'S HIGH QUALITY FISHING
WATERBURY, VT We are reminded of Vermont's great fishing opportunities at this time every year when the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department releases the list of annual record fish caught in the previous season.
Below is the list of annual fish records for 2002. One new Vermont state record was set, and any one of the annual record fish caught last year would make an angler proud.
Vermont Annual Record fish caught in 2002 (species, weight, angler & residence, where fish was caught):
Brook Trout 4.02 lbs., Cody Butler, Bristol, VT, Wyman Pond;
Lake Trout 27.06 lbs., Stanton Parker, Orleans, VT, Seymour Lake;
Whitefish 3.78 lbs., Paul A. Gervais, Swanton, VT, Samson Point, Lake Champlain;
Landlocked Salmon 10 lbs., 4 ozs., Dan Corrigan, South Burlington, VT, Winooski River;
Largemouth Bass 6.8 lbs., Jeremy LaPierre, Milton, VT, Lake Champlain;
Northern Pike 23 lbs. 6 ozs., Joseph F. Bruno, Bomoseen, VT, Glen Lake;
Walleye 11.46 lbs., Raymond Gileris, Johnson, VT, Clyde River;
White Perch 1.6 lbs., Myles L. Rounds, Essex Junction, VT, Converse Bay, Lake Champlain;
Fallfish 2.14 lbs., Rebecca Badger, Richford, VT, Missisquoi River.
The white perch entry also became a new State Record. It is the largest entry for white perch, dating back to 1969, when Vermont's record fish program began.
Entry cards for Vermonts fish record program are available from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department. Entries must be weighed on market scales, preferably with the weight recorded in 100ths of a pound. The length and girth must be measured, and a photo of the fish must accompany the entry. Two witnesses to the weighing and measuring must sign the entry card.
