The day started off slow, one old shed from last year in 6 hrs.of looking. The last 2 hrs. everything turned around.
I went to an area where I found a big 4pt.side earlier in the year hoping I'd find it's mate.I started my search where I stopped searching before and only went about 200 yds. before I found a shed, it was a average size 5pt. fresh and no chews.I had only gone about another 75yds.when I found a second shed,a average size, but heavy 4pt.side.After taking a picture and starting to walk again I spotted yet another shed maybe 20' from this shed.It was the other side to the 4pt.shed I'd just found. This side only had 3pts. and was slightly chewed.
Well,I figured there was at least two more possible sheds in the area so I continued on.A little later on I spotted some tines sticking out of the leaves and thought I had the other half to the 5pt. I'd just found earlier. While I was getting the camera back out I noticed another shed half buried in the leaves about 8' away.Right away I knew this was the other half to the big 4pt.shed I was looking for,it was!!! The other shed laying there wasn't the mate to the 5pt. like I thought it was.It was a average 4pt.
I starting looking again and a little bit later I all but stepped on another shed. This shed was badly chewed, but was the mate to the 5pt. I'd found earlier.
In two hrs.give or take a minute,I found 6 sheds which there was 2 matching sets and another shed that was the mate to a shed I had already found.
I think I'll play the lottery.

Here's a pic of the sheds from friday.I was wrong in my post when I said the other shed laying with the big 4pt.shed I was looking for was a 4pt. shed,it was a 3pt. shed.
See how bad the one half is chewed to the 5pt. set? I never found a fresh shed chewed that bad and it had to be on a shed that I had the mate to.

Sounds like you found a good area. You had a lot better success finding the match sets then i did this year. So far i've found 28 sheds and just 3 match sets, and two of the matched sets are 1.5 yr olds. One of those being a matched forkie set, they are maybe 6 inches long. I figure the squirrels pretty much have the rest of the ones around these parts chewed up pretty bad.

Congratulations on a bunch of nice finds.

buckhunter24-sounds like your having a great season too!! CONGRATS!!
I couldn't find a matching set this year for nothing then Brotherwolf and Shag posted on finding sets and right after that I found my first set of the year.
Two different days out I found 2 sets and the other half to a shed I already had.I usually end up with a set for every 10 sheds I find.
28 sheds and 3 sets puts you right in line with my average.
What kind of areas to you search in?Sounds like you have a pretty good areas too.
Congrats again!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif

BTW-great P&Y deer,that is your deer?

I search mostly in the timber. I find most on the edges of fields just in the woodline. I also cover quite a bit of their food source. Another area i like to look is grassy south facing hillsides.

Yep thats my deer. Been almost 5-years now and haven't been able to get another book deer. See them but they just don't want to come close enough. Imagine THAT!! Fun trying though.

I think I'll head out and have a look around and see if i can't find a match.

deershed,

Sounds like a great day of shed hunting. Nice finds. I like the turtle for size quantification. All I ever have is my chapstick. I'll watch for a turtle shell. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-thumbs-up-aqua.gif

Hey Deershed, you're still finding them. Do you ever wonder what your competition is finding in the areas where you cross-over with other shed hunters? Not much I'll bet (LOL). Gosh, I bet the grass must be starting to grow now down your way, eh? I had the last two weekends ruined by snow, ice storm, etc, so am wired to go try to find one this weekend. I'm determined not to get skunked this weekend. The weather is supposed to be pretty good and I'm gonna try.

Shag-we got that same snow you got, just not as much. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif It's pretty much gone now,but it's been cold since it snowed.I hope I have enough time to find 2 more for a even 50 for a record smashing year for me.
I did run into two different guys two different days out shedhunting and I ran into them just as I was finishing searching that area.I found 1 shed just before the one guy showed up and 3 sheds just before I ran into the other guy. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif The one guy only keeps the bigger sheds and throws the smaller ones in the creeks as he comes to them. He's got too many small ones and doesn't want the competetion finding them.He takes them to discourage the competetion.
Good Luck this weekend, you still have to find the mate to the shed you already have.
