I LIVE RIGHT NEXT TO VALLEY FORGE PA.. WE HAVE A HUGE DEER POP. HERE. THE SIDE OF THE PARK THAT I LIVE BY HAS A HERD OF ABOUT 20 OR SO I WALK THE WOOD LINE THAT THEY USE. AND I WAS WONDER WHERE THE BEST PLACE OR AREA TO LOOK AT FOR THEIR SHEDS.

I think there was a thread on this already if you do a search on "tactics" it should pull it up.
If I remember right the census was...around late season feeding areas. Once you locate these areas, check around fences, creeks or any other obstructions that they may jump and jar an antler loose. Another good spot is trails leading to the feeding areas.
There is probably more, but thats all I can remember.
Welcome to the board!
Try walking about 20 yards inside the woodline and parallel to the wood line, then walk all the trails out to where they bed, then if all else fails, grid it off and dog it out yard by yard. Ask Deershed....he's the king of suburban/park shed hunting. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

I wish Shag!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif thanks for the thought. The only thing I can add to what you and baddison already said is, you have to beat the competetion.
From what I hear Valley Forge is loaded with deer, but also other shed hunters. You have to get out there early in year and as often as you can.If you can get out to look before the weekend I'd get out and search the hotter areas before the numbers head out on the weekend.
I know for a fact sheds from that area have already been found this year!!
If you can get out soon with the snow on the ground the trails the deer have been making though the snow will tell you exactly where they've been hanging out.You might even find one laying in a trail.
If you find the sheds before the competetion, most will think they're in a bad area and not return. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif
Shag-I can hear those elk sheds calling our names!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif SOON!!

BANDIT1-your trips with snow on the ground will most likely be more of a scouting trip over actually finding sheds. You never know though!!
As soon as the snow melts or at least leaves areas of clear ground or patchy snow, get out there and look.Don't wait til it's convenient for you to get out, you've heard the saying"you snooze you lose".If your not out there, I'll quarantee somebody else will be.
If someone goes though the same area your looking the day before you go,chances are you won't find any sheds. You have to BEAT THE COMPETETION and the parks have plenty!!!
I found my first shed this year in a park jan 15th. and found 3 total that day.Every year I start finding them the last week in jan. so next year start early and check often.Don't give up on this year, with all the snow hiding sheds there will be plenty to find when snow finally melts. My best day ever I found 14 and it was right after snow melted.A couple were even laying in patches of snow.
I know this reply is a little off the immediate subject but can you imagine how many sheds the folks searching for Space Shuttle parts must've found? Geez, with those gangs od searchers strung out over the late February countryside I imagine they're not only finding parts from the shuttle disaster but a few tons of whitetail sheds.

HEY FOLKS, WELL I WENT OUT A LITTLE ON FRIDAY ( GOT HOME LATE ) SAW NOTHING. DIDN'T GET OUT ALL WEEKEND DUE TO RESERVES, TOOK MY SON OUT YESTERDAY (MONDAY) DECIDED TO TAKE A NEW TRAIL. AND I FOUND A LARGE GROUP OF DEER. WE GOT ABOUT 15-20 YARDS AWAY FROM THEM GOT SOME GREAT PHOTOS OF THEM. I THINK THAT I MAY HAVE FOUND WHERE TEY ARE BEDDING DOWN AT. I WILL PROBALLY GO OUT EITHER AFTER WORK THIS WEEK OR GO OUT THERE BEFORE I GO TO WORK NEXT WEEK. HOPEFULLY THE SNOW WILL BE ALL GONE http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif AND I WILL BE ABLE TO SEE MORE. WISH ME LUCK. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-wavin-yel.gif
