Does anyone know if i would loose any accuracy if i have a 26" barrel chopped down to 24"or cut and re-crowned?How much would this cost?.How much velosity would i loose?.Also has anyone here gotten better accuracy from there remington 700 by removeing the forend pressure point that supports the barrel?and then glass bedding the recoil lug and tange area.I had a post in the rifle section on this but got no answer?.Last question-Can anyone tell me if the Kwik-Klip conversion kit for rem 700 comes in stainless as well as blued set?.Thanks a bunch to all who can offer advise as im trying to deside on a new rifle and what my options are.Yours truely shrewster56. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

I cut back a .22-250 barrel, down from a 24" to a 20"
I don't know why I did, but it turned out sweet. Desert camo paint job, and the chopped barrel looked good! I can't tell you how much accuracy I lost, I really did't notice? It was a HELL of a lot louder!!!
It was a fun little project though!
It was just a cheap used rifle that I only paid $300 for.
Good luck!!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

You won't loose accuracy, per se, any different from what the barrel already shoots. Velocity loss will be roughly 25fps per inch removed. Who knows, a new crown may actually IMPROVE the accuracy....

i was actually thinking of doing that myself.
i did not like the feel of carrying a BAR in 300win mag or 7mm rem mag with a 24" barrel as a stalking gun.
now i wish i bough the 300win mag and did so.
