I own a Ruger 77 in 358 Winchester with a Weaver 4X scope. While I have not used it for hunting in Maine I have used it extensively hunting for deer in Tennessee. The reason I choose the 358 in Tennessee is the area I hunt has a large wild boar population. I found that the 358 with a 240 grain bullet will drop most boars in their tracks. I have taken a couple of dozen deer with the 358 and can only think of one that traveled more than a couple of yards when hit. Most dropped in their tracks.
