I was thinking the same thing Thonz after we waited until it was too late last year at Big Bear. Big Bear may not be the best for fly fishing though, I've used poppers for bass but never really much else there.
Owens River??? Mammath?

Sounds like fun. I'll try to make it, however softball does run into may http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/afraid_face.gif Another thing to take into concideration is the snow pack we get and what type of fishing (tube a lake or river/stream) every one would like to do. I'm planing to get a trip to Kennedy medows together in June for friends and any JHP'er. The up side to KM is that it's a 3 1/2 to 4 hr drive insted of 5 to 6 for Bishop/Mammoth.

The Owens or Mammath would be great. We could meet at Pleasant Valley Resavor or The June loop.

This trip sounds like it has possibilities for me. I'll start dropping hints with the boss now. A few honeydo's and I might be able to swing this.

I agree VA Hunter, except I think they should come to northern CA! What's 5-6 more hours on a 5 hour drive? http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif Wish I could go, but the distance is too far.

Well it look like I'm going to book a spot up at June Lake, not sure if we are going to tent it or get condo, mostly will be getting a condo being that I'm bring the family, plus it might be to cold for the baby. So if those who are planing on going how about the June lake campground are. It has a grass area for temts and all kinds of spots for campers and RV's. I was thinking of 2nd or 3rd week in May. What do you all think?????

Best bet would be to just pick a date.
I just checked availability for June Lake CG. The weekends of 5/11 and 5/18 still have some availability. Memorial Day weekend is booked.
Oh! Ridge Campground is another option and typically has more availabilty of sites.

As it stands right now, my bro-in-law and I will be there the weekend of 5/16-5/18. We'll be tent camping so if anybody has the inside scoop on which campground to stay at, I'm open to suggestions.

D Sea, Try Sierra recreation and ask for Michele Frederickson ,The number is 760-648-1189. I would talk to him and make a reservation. The camping are is next to the lake ( June ) and they have a nice area for tents, I would stay there when I owuld use my camper, but I'll staying at the lake front cabins this year with the baby and all.

D Sea,
I usually go after Labor Day, but I like to camp down along the middle fork of the San Joaquin River, by Devil's Postpile. Very pretty in there, and some shelter from wind, etc. Lots of day trippers in season, so no cars unless your camping there. Rainbow Falls is beautiful and the river is full of stupid trout http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif Rainbows brookies and browns. Below the falls (walk in) are generally considered natives. Above, they plant, but I've pulled browns and brookies out. Theres a few small lakes in there that have some pretty big fish (I like the one near Red's Meadow) fish from shore (far shore is best) or float tube. No motors. Good chance to see some bears and deer in there. Also near Red's are some WPA-era free hot showers, natural hot spring water just the right temp. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Also, after skiing is over, the mountain is open for mountain bikers and a couple lifts will take you up. Getting down is your problem. Town is not too far if you get bored or need provisions.

DKScott,
You hit, that's the best place in the area. Sotcher lake is great for float tubing. The before 7:00/after 7:00 seems to keep the crowds down. I don't think the road will open to cars until the end of June, though.

Tony,
We;ll be there ready to fish on the morning of the 16th. Right now it looks like it will be just my Bro-in-law and I, but 1 or 2 more might tag along. We are planning on pitching our tent in the June Lake campground. If that is full, plan B is O ridge.
