Took my son and went down to Kittery Trading Post yesterday and did some shopping.Steve had never been there and really liked it,I traded in a gun and bought a scope and some mounts.Great set-up although they were quite busy for winter time on a weekday. Was hoping to get some of the new 300WSM federal parition loads but they tell me that they are not being shipped yet.Did get to compare the Zeiss and Leupold scopes side by side and just wander around and enjoy the feast for the eyes.Still got a store credit and waiting for them to get a scope I want in so I guess I'll get to go back again in a couple weeks. Was surprised at the amount of snow as we got farther south in the trip. They really got hammered by that last storm I'd say!

Two years ago, on my way up to Portage, I stopped at KTP first thing in the morning. I stayed over night in Mass. and got to KTP before they opened. It was Labor Day weekend and there was a crowd waiting for the doors to open. Met a bunch of guys from PA that were headed north for bear also. I looked around, don't recall that I purchased anything. The do have alot of guns upstairs though.

woods,
KTP is one of my favorite places to be, whenever i go there i spend at least 2hrs gawking and checking out the firearms, thats all i do, i havent even made it to any other part of the store. Last time i went down there i bought my .243 its a NEF SB2, its a nice little rifle, i bought a used 3x9x40 wideview simmons scope to go on it, its a tack driver for sure. My dad shot a wood chuck with it this summer and needless to say the woodchuck was a mess. Id like to take a trip down there but if i go down i will want to buy something and i wont have any money to spend lol. So im waitin till my 18th birthday in March so i can go buy myself a birthday present

Sounds like a must stop for a lot of JHP members.I still got some store credit so I'll get to do it again in a week or two http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif Have to pass on taking up bowhunting this year as the scope upgrades and ammo took most of my spending money, but it gives me something to look forward to next year http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up-ani.gif

KTP is a fine place. I get up there at least 6 times a year, could probably go more as I live only an hour away. Can't go in there without getting something, in fact I think I need a hunting license. No need to get it on the IF&W online site when I can go so KTP. Sounds like a plan, throw in some seafood and the factory outlets and maybe Mrs Bill/NH will keep me company. Bill

Well living in Wells I can get there in about 15 min , it's almost too close. But it's very convienent! I drive by it every day going to work at Pease! Was in there Monday, just picked up the Mathews Legacy Bow. I know it's only a week away from the new bows to come out but I couldnt pass up on the price 519.00 for the bow and the Legacy is in the 2003 catalog! Love the bow!....jeff

No doubt Wells, you got a great deal. That's what I paid for mine back in the Spring, but I am a personal friend of the proshop owner I purchased it from so he cut me some slack. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif

Hey Wells,Welcome.Like the rest I love the place.Good deal on your bow.Did you happen to see if they had any cam and half Hoyts.I can't wait to compare them .I'm a Mathews guy also.
Last time I was there I shot bows for a couple of hour, wasn't very busy and this fella had about three bows he was trying to make a decision on.Between the sales guy the fella buying the bow we had a great time helping this guy make up his mind. The sales guy was great, just a young man, told me to jump right in and shoot if I wanted. He knew that I wasn't buying a bow.Between us we must have shot a hundred times or better. My kind of shopping. We couldn't talk the fella into the Mathews,he went with the Hoyt.Ron http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

Went right thru Wells today on my way to KTP for my other scope. Now that the scope update is over time to start saving for the bow set-up.Want a Mathews but don't know if I can save that much by late summer.I'm thinking the whole set-up soup to nuts will be about $850.Does that sound about right? Will need everything to start out and those bows don't come cheap. Will a small archery shop be more expensive?Would I be better off going to a place like Kittery?I thought they were high on the scopes but I was using store credit so I had to buy from them. What do you think is my best bet?

Why are you sold on a Mathews? Have you shot any bows recently?

Woods,I bought my Mathews from Jim at Village Archery in Pittston outside of Togus.Got an alright deal and was treated well.He is just out of the way.KTP has more stock than any place that I have been in the state and I don't find their prices high.Mathews and the like set the prices and KTP stays pretty much in line.
They also have a good used section. There are some pretty good turn overs in bows cause they change every year. Its a good way to step in and get your feet wet,get good equipment and not break your wallet.
If you buy new and top of the line staying under $850 will be a challange.Thats to get your arrows, sights, rest, quiver, release and a target.
I'm kind of a cheap skate and will buy good used before new and I hit ebay pretty hard for my arrows and gadgets.I like the Whisker Biscuit rest and Wally had them end of season under 20 bucks, bought a repacement carbon biscuit for $5.I know what I need now so I wouldn't have a problem buying a bow on ebay either.
Anyway you do it, plan on spending the summer out in the yard chasing arrows, its an insidious affliction only tempered by long hours in the fields pulling arrows out of targets http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif Ron

Woods,
KTP has some good prices right now on Mathews and Hoyt. But this sale will be over once the New bows are put on the self. When I bought mine this past Monday they said they would be running the sale another week. I buy a new Mathews every year and I wait just before the new bows come out. Most often you can save 100.00 to 125.00 off last years hottest bow!
Mathews came out with a new cam design(still single cam) and 3 new bows The LX looks like the Legacy but has the new cam and is 35 ATA, BlackMax 3 (the new fastest bow on the planet)330fps and a Conguest 3
The LX is gonna be hott!!!!! along with the Conquest 3 the both have anew limb cup and limb system that is tapered so there is 0 tolerence and there will be nomore limb lean or twisting of limbs. (not like there were really any twisted limbs before). Mathews just keeps on delivering, they have innovation after innovation!!!!! Cant wait to shoot one!!!!!
Good luck at KTP! If you like Hoyt or Bowtech you can check out D&G Archery in Wells! If your interested I can give you Directions. Jeff

Wells, have you taken a look at them Bowtecs,I have never seen one. They have a mean following on some of the bow boards.Their new two cam is supposed to be a hot ticket.
What bow have you been shooting?I love my FX, it doesn't have the bells and whistles, but it does the job for me.It would be nice to step up to a Q2 or a Legacy.Ron http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

Ron, I shoot the Legacy. If I was you I would step up tp the Legacy or the Icon. Both great hunting bows! Eventually you'll see the Q2 disappear or become a new Q2 not sure if anything they did to the Q2 this year, I believe it is still the same Q2. Dont get me wrong the Q2 is a great bow 2 of my buddies shot them and love em! If you looking for a smooth, quiet bow a new Mathews is for you! Ron I almost bought a Bow Tech Patriot over the Legacy. I shot them both and the comfort for me of the Legacy made me pick the Legacy. 2 similar bows , I think the Bowtech has more speed but the Legacy felt better in my hands. The Bowtech grips are very large and I have small hands! Hope this helps ...jeff
