Rust on the Barrel

Well this is what I get for not whiping my gun after a duck hunt. 3 weeks went buy and when I pulled my gun out of the case it had some rust on the barrel. So I took some solvent and a soft brush and got the rust off. I was thinking of reblueing it or painting it a camo pattern. My qeustion is this?
If I paint it, what steps should I take. Some help would be msot helpfull. Thanks

You saw my ugly old painted 870 I would use steel wool and get all the rust off then wash in simple green to get all the grease off, put on a rustolem primer then paint. when I did mine years ago I brushed on duck boat paint but when I did my other 870 I went to home depot and bought 3 cans of camo paint, black green & mud if they don't have it try a hobby shop they carry all the camo colors for the model builders.
