WILDLIFE AGENTS NAB ILLEGAL HUNTER THANKS TO TIP

12/23/2002

Randall G. Permenter, 54, of Zwolle, was cited by agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division in Sabine Parish on November 17, for allegedly killing a deer illegally the previous day.

Senior Agents Joe Dewil and Maury Leone questioned Permenter about a four-point buck deer he killed on November 16 after Leone received information that the deer had been killed from the roadway on Boline Road. Permenter admitted that he had been driving along the roadway when he saw the deer, stopped his vehicle, and shot it. He was then cited for possession of an illegally taken deer, hunting from a moving vehicle, and hunting deer from a public road. He was also issued a civil summons to pay $524.54 in restitution to the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for the deer. The deer was seized and donated to charity.

The penalty for possession of an illegally taken deer is a fine of up to $750, jail for up to 120 days, or both, plus court costs and forfeiture of anything seized. Hunting from a moving vehicle is punishable by a fine of up to $500, jail for up to 90 days, or both, plus court costs. The penalty for hunting deer from a public road is a fine of up to $350, or jail for up to 60 days, or both, plus court costs.
