Welcome to the forum. A-## tags are archery only tags for certain areas. For instance I have an A-31 tag and its good for zone D-11 within LA county and with a bow only during the specified A-31 hunting season. A-## zones you are not allowed to posses a fire arm while hunting with a bow. Premium tags are tags that sell out during the drawing and are special draws. Restricted tags are tags that sell out every year but not usually before July. A zone is not an archery only zone its a general zone like b zone or d zones that rarelly sell out(just clarify). The draw is for premium and restricted tags as a first and second choice. Premium tags work off of preference points during the draw. The more points you have the better your chances of getting that tag.

If the tag is not sold out you can go to an authorized dealer and buy a tag over the counter now. To keep your preference points you have to buy a license every year. Your gonna find out the bhcr is easy compared to public land hunts. Good luck

All you need to know is in the Big Game Regulations http://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=44018 http://www.dfg.ca.gov/Hunting/

Here is the deer zone map. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/deer/cazonemap.html

The draw system has already closed for the season. You can still purchase over the counter tags. Here is a link of the deer tags that are available.

Premium Tags are only available through the draw unless there was any leftover tags during the draw.

Restricted Deer Hunt Tags – Any hunt that filled on or before the first business day after August 1 of the previous year.
Unrestricted Deer Hunt Tags – Any hunt that did not fill on or before the first business day after August 1, in the previous year.
As for the Capital letter, are you talking about the different zones? A,B,C,D,X zones? Shoot straight and good luck this year!
