Maybe this is DFG's strategy. Piss off enough hunters that they leave the state or hunt elsewhere. I'm with you slanttop357, more opportunities for us!!

My husband just read through the regs and apparently DFG has set a maximum limit of 10 points for elk and antelope. What is the point of a point system if you set a max on the number of points? Everyone will have the same number of points and they are irrelevant.

The DFG started the point system in 2002 so that's just the max anyone could have. Next year's max will be eleven and so on.

You guys pray for elk tags, my archery tag is OTC and guaranteed (outta state). I won't fund the corruption in CA anymore. Let's comare trophy pics next fall.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make (or the DMV connection) but I do know buying fishing licenses my whole life and being involved in the pro-rec angler lobby effort was pointless. The political games being played with California's wildlife and ocean/public property access is beyond reason. Seriously, mt. lion and sealion protection w/o sunset clauses, MPAs without funding (illegal) and with no science to support them, now a bowhunter prosecuted for shooting a lion in self defense...it's all just too much. Besides, there's not that much in So. Calif. to hunt anyway and if I gotta drive for 6+ hrs to get to a decent area anyway, why not hunt better places? You really think I'm gonna get an elk in CA? I don't. This is the 1st year I didn't buy a fishing license for CA. I didn't change...the laws in CA did that. Now the impact of those faulty laws can and will be felt by the Dept and the politicos pissing away the money WE SPORTSMEN give them. Funding the corruption in CA hasn't helped our cause...why not try something new? We may have to agree to disagree on this one.

I'd hunt out of state too. If I had the time and money to do it. But for some of us, we have to stick closer to home for a variety of reasons so we'll make the best of it.

I am just saying we all dump God only knows how much into DMV for license's & tags, is not some of that revenue to fix our streets and hwy ways ? I sure pay out a big chunk of money for 3 cars and 4 drivers, and smog checks, and our freeway's are steal in bad shape. I know your upset with all this crap going on in the DFG, but dont just give up on them and our wildlife we do need you to stand with us if we are to change the direction we are going. i love hunting here in california. my turkey hunting friend are flat out jealous at the birds here. i have made a bunch of new friends that have shown me some great FREE areas i get to haunt with just my AO tag. honestly, picking up bowhunting was the best decision ever. i feel like i am hunting all the time.

i got that magazine a few days ago. with turkey hunting, i havent had the chance to flip thru it. year after year, i just get an AO tag, and a point. whatever. i live here, and i will keep sticking and moving to do what i love.

the DMV can kiss my butt..i hate that place. i go thru AAA.

I go thru the AAA too...but unlike the DFG, there's no way to get around the DMV fees, it's compulsory whereas the DFG is voluntary. And unlike those in No. Cal. who have a world of hunting options within close range, those down in OC have to drive for hours just to hunt coyotes and hours more to find any real game. Recently I hunted outside Vegas and man oh man, what a difference! Even stumbled upon wild horses. At the end of the day I have to decide whether it's worth the money and for me, it's not. I get precious few opportunities to hunt as it is and if I can tilt the odds in my favor by going to AZ, NV & OR and give the CA DFG the bird...I will. The opportunities that exist for guys like me in So. Cal. are few and besides, since i picked up a bow, I don't really have an interest in rifle hunting. There is no way I'll ever get a legal elk with w/ a bow in So. Cal. so outta state I go.

i do hear you! i hunt AZ couse every year. first thing you see is how stupid friendly AZ is towards hunters. it is a pleasure buying my tag from some young cute AZ girl every year. same in NM, altho they treat us non-res like lepers..heheh.

maybe next year you can drive up north and we can chase some of my turkeys..

Yeah...found that same pro-hunter attitude in UT, CO, NV & OR. It's also quite a bit cheaper and I can squeeze in some terrific salmon, rockfish and halibut fishing as well. I can even defend myself from a lion attack without fear of litigation!!!

I havent written CA out completely, but I have made many adjustments that hurt their pocketbook, not mine. As long as I live in this corrupt state, they will receive less every year, and 5 years from now, they wont get shi7!

I've done all my big game hunting in Arizona and Nebraska for years. I still fish California but hate all the regulations. Can't fish after dark on some lakes, no live bait except worms and insects no body contact with the water blah blah blah. Oh and pay to launch your boat and sometimes pay a lake usage fee. If this housing market ever gets out of the dump its back to the midwest for me.

Can you believe some idiots (like Orygun) actually travel TO California to hunt? If you are not obsessed with "making book" CA really isn't a bad place to go. Even with all the nonsense and comparatively low success rates on deer. I find each of me every 2 year trips to the Eastern Sierras very enjoyable hunts. I continue to have quality experiences in large part due to getting together with family and friends I rarely get tp see anymore..

Other than being garroted by having to by a license each year(was way too poor to get a lifetime before I left) just to apply, the cost is less than what it runs a non-resident to hunt here. And non-residents get it in the shorts by having to buy our license just to apply and there is a huge cap on non-resident tags.
